PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF February 15 – February 21, 2016

Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations
and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

02/15

Disturbance: VPD dispatch received a third party report of two individuals fighting and one was threatening to pull a knife. The individuals were separated. This case is under investigation.

Disturbance: Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated male banging on the doors and windows of a residence. Officers located the suspect and warned the individual to stop. The subject agreed and officers left the area. Approximated 5 minutes later, officers were called back and subsequently arrested Justin P. Allen, DOB: 9/22/93, of Valdez for Disorderly Conduct. Mr. Allen was booked into the jail and later released on bail.

Animal Impound: An individual reported that he found a pig along the highway around 10 mile and didn’t know what to do with it. Officers were currently on another incident and instructed the individual to leave it at the drop off cage at the Animal Shelter. The Animal Control officer later released the pig to its owner.

Criminal Mischief: VPD received a report that a pickup tire was slashed while the owner was shopping on Feb 13th between the hours of 5:20pm-5:30pm. If you have any information related to this incident please call the Valdez Police Department.

Moose DOA: A moose was reported to have been hit at Mile Post 53 of the Rich highway. The moose was salvaged.

Civil: VPD received a report that an individual was conducting business in Valdez without the proper licensing. This case is under investigation.

Reckless Endangerment: Dispatch received a report that a child was not secured properly in a moving vehicle. Officers made contact with the suspect driver who stated that the child was properly secured.

Criminal Mischief: An individual reported that her vehicle was damaged (keyed on passenger door) while parked at a local business between the hours of 5:15pm – 6pm. If you have any information on this incident please call the Valdez Police Department.

Protective Order: A short term Protective order was served on an individual.

Animal Noise: VPD received a report of a dog continuously barking. Officers contacted the owner and they agreed to take care of it.

Burglary- After investigating a report of missing weapons from a local residence, officers arrested Nickolas SL Mills, DOB: 6/3/87, of Valdez on charges of Burglary 1st Degree (Felony), Theft 2nd Degree (Felony), Misconduct Weapons 3rd Degree and Criminal Trespass 1st Degree. Mr. Mills remains in the Valdez Jail with a $10,000 bail.

Bench Warrant – Officers arrested Dane J. Gilson, DOB: 2/13/84 of Valdez on an outstanding Bench Warrant for failing to report to the Valdez Jail to serve time on a court case from 2014.

Welfare Check: VPD received a report that an intoxicated female fell in her driveway and the callers could not get her to go into her residence. Officers responded and assisted her into her residence.

Drill: Officers assisted the Elementary school with their Active Shooter drill.

Theft – After investigating a report of missing weapons, officers determined that James M. January, DOB: 12/31/84, of Valdez had some of the missing weapons at his residence. Mr. January was summons to appear in court on a charge of Theft 2nd Degree (Felony).

SAM: VPD received a report of Possible Sex Abuse of a Minor. This case is under investigation.

Welfare Check: VPD received a call from Trooper dispatch in reference to a welfare check on an individual whose vehicle was found rolled over at MP 85 of the Richardson Hwy. Officers made contact with a friend of the individuals who was going to follow up with the Troopers.

Disturbance: VPD received a report of a male and female screaming next door. Officers responded and could not locate the source of anyone screaming.

Disturbance: An hour after the previous, VPD received another call with the same complaint. Officers located a male and female and ended up giving the male subject a Disorderly Conduct warning. No other complaints were received.

Assault: An individual reported to VPD that she had been assaulted the night before while playing darts. She did not wish to press charges, only wanted the other person advised that she could not have any contact with her.

Welfare Check: VPD received a request to check in an intoxicated female who was staggering down a street out at Alpine Woods. Officers responded and could not locate anyone.

Child Custody: VPD officers responded to a complaint that involved child custody. Complainant stated that her ex was not at home when she went to pick up their child. The complainant did not have specifics in her paperwork relating to times. The child was later returned.

Traffic Complaint: VPD received a report that a fuel truck had passed a backhoe in a no passing area causing the complainant to put on his brakes. The complainant did not want to sign a citation.

Harassment: VPD received a report from a concerned parent that an older male was texting their juvenile daughter trying to get her to come outside. The individual was currently outside their house. Officers responded and spoke with the male subject and also with his parent.

Disturbance: A caller reported hearing his neighbors fighting and that the female yelled “he hit me in the face”. Officers responded to the residence. The female answered the door and was not cooperative with the officers, stated her husband was not at home. Subject appeared to be upset, but would not cooperate.

Property Damage: A caller reported that they slid through the gate at the baler due to the icy roads. The chain broke. Baler staff was notified and indicated they would go out and fix it.

Domestic Issues: A caller reported to VPD that his partner is making false allegations and trying to take their kids and move away.

Welfare Check: VPD received to a request to check on an individual by their employer after the employer received a disturbing text. Officers made contact with the subject who was upset about an argument with her boyfriend. Subject was taken from the residence and referred to AVV.

Accident with Injuries: VPD dispatch received a report of a one car roll over with two people trapped inside. Officers and EMS responded to the scene. Individuals were transported to the Hospital.
