Victim #1: Name Withheld, 87 Year Old Female Resident of Gilroy
Details:
On 02/16/206 at approximately 2119 hours Gilroy Police and Fire Units were dispatched to the 800 Block of Fifth Street in Gilroy on a report of a Vehicle vs. Pedestrian collision, which had just occurred.
Upon arrival emergency personnel found an 87 year-old female had been struck by a car traveling on Fifth Street. CPR was initiated but despite the life-saving efforts of the first responders, the female succumbed to the traumatic injuries sustained in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators with the Gilroy Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) have assumed the investigation and are working to determine the factors that caused the collision. At this time it is not known if alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor. The circumstances behind why the female was in the roadway are also unknown at this time. No arrests were made in this case. Once the investigation is complete it will be reviewed and a determination made as to if criminal charges are appropriate in this case.
