The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

February 9, 2016

0730 Hours: Officer Kovach investigated a window smash burglary at Domino’s Pizza at 35248 Newark Blvd.

0752 Hours: Officer Allum investigated a non-injury 4 vehicle collision at Thornton Ave/Locust St.

1014 Hours: Officer Kovach was responded to a residence in the 34100 block of Millwood Ct. on a report of a disturbance. Officer Kovach arrested a 28 year old female of Newark for possession of drug paraphernalia and child endangerment. A 32 year old male of Newark was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, and child endangerment. Both were booked at Fremont Jail.

2000 Hours: Officer Geser investigated a non-injury hit & run traffic collision that occurred on Jarvis Ave.

February 10, 2016

1655 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 44 year old male of Newark for possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was issued a notice to appear in court and was released from the scene.

February 12, 2016

0712 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 28 year old male of Newark for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1907 Hours: Officer Simon investigated a two vehicle collision on Haley St near Bettencourt St where one of the parties was pregnant and the other had a complaint of neck pain.

2020 Hours: CSO Parks investigated a hit and run collision that occurred in the Newpark Mall lower Macy’s parking lot. A white or silver suspect vehicle struck a parked victim vehicle between 1730-1845 hours.

2058 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated a vehicle vandalism that just occurred on Thornton Ave near Graham Ave. The victim was sitting in his parked vehicle when an unknown suspect, described as a 35 year old white male wearing a light hat and a light shirt, struck his vehicle with a stick.

2147 Hours: CSO Parks investigated a property damage only collision on the southern median of Cedar Boulevard at South Magazine Rd. The driver fell asleep at the wheel and rolled onto the median where the interior of his vehicle caught fire.

2209 Hours: Officer Simon investigated a possible theft where ex-son in law is allowed into his former in-laws residence in the 36600 block of Beutke Dr to shower. A large television was noticed to be missing immediately following his departure.

2337 Hours: Officer Mavrakis investigated a window smash auto burglary in the 6000 block Joaquin Murieta Ave. The theft occurred between 1500-2330 hours.

0050 Hours: Officer Mavrakis was flagged down by a motorcycle owner who reported that he just observed a Hispanic or Asian male attempt to steal his motorcycle from Town Place Suites located at 39802 Cedar Boulevard. The suspect was a passenger of a suspect vehicle similar to a Chrysler 300 driven by a female, which was last seen northbound on Cedar Boulevard.


February 13, 2016

0838 Hours: Officer Losier responded to 35466 Dumbarton Ct. the Residence Inn for a reported hit and run accident. Witnesses reported an elderly male driver later identified as a 73 year old male of Newark had crashed into the Hotel, a parked vehicle, and fire hydrant. The suspect then drove off with two flat tires and a damaged vehicle. The vehicle was later located parked in the shopping center across the street. A search of the area located the driver at Super Cuts, 5777 Jarvis Avenue, getting his hair cut. He was not intoxicated or impaired during this collision. He was later cited for leaving the scene of a collision - 20002 CVC and driving with a suspended license - 14601.1a CVC and his vehicle was towed.

1156 Hours: Dispatch received a call from Town Place Suites 39820 Cedar Blvd. requesting officers respond regarding a female in a room requesting emergency assistance. Officers responded to the room, but despite repeated attempts to speak to the occupants no one opened the door or talked to the officers. Officers opened the door and a 22 year old male of Newark was contacted inside the room. The original reporting party was his mother. There was an argument which was resolved prior to the arrival of police. His mother had left the room. The male was issued a citation for obstructing and delaying officers - 148 (a)(1) PC.

1227 Hours: Officer Nobbe and Officer Mapes responded to a hit and run collision in the 6300 block of Jasmine Avenue. The victim reported her boyfriend had stolen her vehicle and had crashed into her neighbor’s fence. A 24 year old male fled the scene on foot. He was contacted at Mc Donald’s Restaurant near NewPark Mall. The investigation will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for complaint on charges of 10851 CVC- vehicle theft, and 20002 CVC – fleeing the scene of a collision.

1518 Hours: Officers responded to the area of Ash St and Thornton Ave for a shots fired call. The caller reported his girlfriend’s son, a 21 year old male of Newark, had shot at his car as he drove past him. Officers were able to determine the firearm was actually a pellet gun. The 21 year old male was contacted, issued a citation for vandalizing the car, and his pellet gun was confiscated.

1848 Hours: Officer Johnson conducted a pedestrian stop on a 25 year old male of Hayward, who was reported as a suspicious person possibly checking vehicle door handles in the Towne Place Suites parking lot. He was placed under arrest for a no bail misdemeanor vehicle theft warrant. Dyer was booked at Fremont PD Jail. (I am sure he was just making sure the residents had locked their cars.)

2111 Hours: A 35 year old male was intoxicated and causing a disturbance in his residence, overturning furniture, and punching fences. Officer Rodgers placed the male under arrest for being drunk in public, when he conveniently walked outside of the house. He was transported to Fremont PD Jail.

0135 Hours: Officer Johnson investigated a window smash commercial burglary at Biryani Pot located at 39277 Cedar Boulevard. Loss was a safe with an unknown amount of money.

0520 Hours: Officers responded to an alarm call at Soccer Kraze located at 5825 Jarvis Ave. Officer found another front door smash commercial burglary. The suspect was a medium build black male wearing a green jacket and brown or gray colored beanie.


February 14, 2016

0922 Hours: Officer Mapes spotted a 34 year old male of Newark passed out on the sidewalk on Newark Ave. near Cedar Blvd. The male had a half empty of a bottle of vodka and told Officer Mapes he was going to go to sleep on the sidewalk. He was booked at Fremont Jail for being drunk in public.

1022 Hours: Officer Mapes conducted a probation search at a residence in the 6800 block of Cedar Blvd. During the probation search, a 31 year old female of Manteca was contacted and found to have an outstanding felony warrant. She was taken into custody and later booked at Fremont Jail.

1130 Hours: Officer Nobbe contacted a 39 year old male of Newark who was wanted in connection to a robbery in Newark. The male was arrested and booked at Fremont Jail.

1231 Hours: Officer Losier and Officer Mapes responded to Safeway regarding a reported fight between store security and several suspects. It was later determined that Loss Prevention had detained two suspects for shoplifting. A 21 year old female of Oakland and a 28 year old male of Oakland were arrested for 484 a PC. Both suspects were issued citations and released. The female was also issued a citation for an outstanding warrant.

1507 Hours: Officer Musantry and Officer Katz contacted a 25 year old transient female hiding at a homeless encampment near Thornton Ave and I880. She had several warrants for her arrest. She was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

1644 Hours: Officer Losier and Officer Mapes responded to the Carl’s Jr. Restaurant, located at 5570 Thornton Avenue; regarding a 32 year old transient male after a citizen found several hypodermics needles in the Carl’s Jr. bathroom. The citizen noticed the needles after the male had used the restroom. The male was contacted inside KFC Restaurant located at 5724 Thornton Avenue. The male was arrested for an outstanding warrant and for possession of heroin He was issued a citation and released from the scene.

1802 Hours: Officer Simon accepted the arrest of a 25 year old transient male who had been detained by security for theft from Safeway. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail for theft.

1845 Hours: Officer Taylor accepted the arrest of a 32 year old male of Newark for shoplifting from Safeway. The male is active to probation for burglary and had drug paraphernalia in his possession. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail for 459.5 PC – commercial burglary, 1203.2 PC – violation of probation, and 11364.1 H&S- possession of drug paraphernalia.

2204 Hours: Upon checking a vehicle in the Silliman Center parking lot, Officer Arroyo contacted a 40 year old male of Redwood City sleeping in his car. The male had a misdemeanor warrant out of San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office for suspended driver’s license. He was cite released with a new court date for the warrant.

2358 Hours: Officer Johnson conducted a pedestrian stop on a 43 year old female of Milpitas in the parking lot of the Courtyard Marriott located at 34905 Newark Boulevard. Russell was issued a citation and released on a misdemeanor warrant out of Santa Clara County for theft.

0317 Hours: Officer Taylor conducted a pedestrian stop on a 28 year old male of Newark in the alley to the rear of CVS Pharmacy. During a probation search of the male, Officer Taylor located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was placed under arrest and booked at Fremont Jail

February 15, 2016

1148 Hours: NPD units responded to a disturbance at Second Chance on Central Ave. Officer Nobbe arrested a 35 year old male of Newark, for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a citation and released.

1648 Hours: NPD units responded to the Cinedome building located at 6000 NewPark Mall on a report of an intoxicated male. Officer Jackman arrested 34-year-old male of San Pablo, for public intoxication. Ruiz was booked at Fremont Jail.

0107 Hours: Officers responded to a door-kick burglary in progress at Wahida Beauty Bar (7324 Thornton Ave.) that was called in by employees of the nearby Carl’s Jr. Restaurant. The suspects were described as black males and were last seen driving a small yellow colored vehicle.
