Victim shot, suspect stabbed, in sexual assault in S. Amarillo. Suspect arrested.

On 2-11-16, at 8:59 PM, officers responded to a home in S. Amarillo on an aggravated assault.  Responding officers found the door locked and had to force their way in.  Once inside, they found an adult female victim who was suffering from a gunshot wound in the shoulder.  Initial information available is that the male suspect, who was known to the victim, was in the home as a guest.  After being in the home for several hours, the suspect sexually assaulted her.  The victim was able to gain access to a handgun in the home.  The exact circumstances are still under investigation, but at some point the gun discharged and the victim sustained a wound in the shoulder.  The victim was able to use a kitchen knife to stab the suspect during the incident, and the suspect fled.  The victim was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.  Her injury is not believed to be life-threatening.  At about 12:20 AM, APD Crimes Against Persons investigators located the named suspect at a home in the 1500 block of SE 6th Avenue.  David Lynn Gooch WM 38 was taken into custody on a charge of aggravated sexual assault.  He was treated at the hospital for the stab wound on his right side.  After his release, he was booked into the Potter County Detention Center.   The handgun and knife were recovered at the scene.  This incident is still under investigation.
