Incident Summary

***Update to original Nixle sent regarding vehicle vandalism***

On January 30, 2016, a Nixle advisory was sent to the community regarding numerous incidents of vehicle vandalism on McDowell Blvd and Novak Dr. After the initial Nixle was sent out, additional incidents occurred throughout the weekend primarily on the Westside of Petaluma. Officer Hutchinson diligently conducted follow up investigation which included analyzing data, crime scene evidence and witness interviews who provided possible suspect descriptions. Officer Hutchinson was ultimately able to identify two juvenile suspects who were contacted at the scene during the initial investigation but were at the time, believed to be witnesses.

On February 04, 2016, Officer Hutchinson contacted both juvenile suspects and conducted an in depth interview with them regarding the incidents. Both juveniles admitted to committing the acts of vandalism and both confirmed the others involvement as well. The juveniles admitted the acts of vandalism were random and appeared to be as a result of peer pressure. Due to the juvenile’s age and level of cooperation in the investigation; they were arrested, cited and released to their parents. Because the suspects are minors, their names and other identifying information will not be released to the public.

The total number of incidents of vandalism was eleven and the total estimated cost of repair was approximately $25,000.

The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank the community for their patience and assistance in the investigation.
