APD investigating possibly racing-related fataliity on Hughes/Adams Connector last night...
On February 9, 2016 at approximately 7:20 PM, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of S. Adams on motor vehicle collision. Responding officers determined that a 2003 Buick four-door had been traveling southbound over the Hughes/ Adams Connector at a high rate of speed. The driver, Jeremiah Nicodemus Hunter, BM, 39 of Amarillo lost control of the Buick. He skidded into the east wall of the overpass and then struck a northbound 2013 Honda Civic driven by April Marie Stone, WF, 29 of Amarillo. Hunter died at the scene of injuries received in the crash. Stone was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Her passenger, Charlie Dee Reed, WM, 48 was taken to a local hospital but was later air lifted to Lubbock with life threatening injuries. Justice of the Peace Herman has ordered an autopsy. It was reported that Hunter was racing another vehicle. Racing, speed and the driver not wearing a seat belt are factors in this fatal crash.
