The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

January 29, 2016

0044 Hours: During a traffic stop on Cherry St., Officer Homayoun arrested a 28 year old female of Union City for a misdemeanor warrant. She was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

0740 Hours: Officer Fredstrom arrested a 28 year old male of Newark for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1104 Hours: Officer Fredstrom arrested a 39 year old male of Newark for an outstanding arrest warrant and for providing false information to a peace officer - 148.9 PC.

1512 Hours: Officer Fredstrom arrested a 52 year old female of Newark for an outstanding arrest warrant. She was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1651 Hours: Officer Posadas responded to the area of Darvon Ct, for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Officer Posadas arrested a 19 year old male of San Jose for two outstanding arrest warrants. He was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

0143 Hours: A female caller reported that a white colored van (CA license plate# 5ZQU218) was following her since Thornton Ave and reported that she was calling from the area of Deborah Street and Zulmida Avenue. The above listed vehicle containing a sole male occupant in the driver seat was contacted slouching down in the driver seat of the running vehicle at the corner of Leone St and Zulmida Ave. The driver, a 22 year old male of Stockton, was wearing various gang specific clothing and had many tattoos indicating his affiliation with a gang. He was determined to be active to several different felony probations, 2 restraining orders, a suspended DL, and a curfew. A probation search of the vehicle yielded more gang clothing, a baseball bat, and a gravity knife. The driver was arrested for the gravity knife possession and probation violation. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

0351 Hours: Officer Arroyo investigated a possible solo vehicle traffic collision on Cedar Boulevard at Robertson Ave. A male driver was contacted passed out in the driver seat with his seat belt fastened, with the car running. A 36 year old male of Newark was determined to be DUI. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

January 30, 2016

1042 Hours: Officer Mapes arrested a 25 year old female of Newark for 273.6 PC – violation of a domestic violence restraining order. She was contacted during a pedestrian stop and found to be with the male who she is restrained from. She was transported and booked at Fremont Jail.

1107 Hours: Officer Musantry arrested a 22 year old female of Lathrop for embezzlement - 503 PC. She was an employee at Auntie Ann’s Pretzels at NewPark Mall. She was caught stealing from the register. She was issued a citation and released.

1203 Hours: Officer Mapes and Officer Musantry conducted a probation search at a residence in the 37800 block of Birch St. During the search, officers located methamphetamine, cocaine, and a pipe used to smoke narcotics. A 48 year old male of Newark, a 53 year old male of Newark and a 54 year old male of Fremont were all arrested for possession of the drugs and drug paraphernalia. All three were cited and released.

1321 Hours: Officer Katz arrested a 42 year old transient male for possession of methamphetamine -11377 H&S. He was issued a citation and released.

1514 Hours: Officer Mapes arrested a 26 year old male of Newark for his outstanding no cite misdemeanor warrant. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

2150 Hours: CSO Parks investigated a residential burglary at a residence in the 6200 block of Joaquin Murieta where entrance made through a pried rear slider. Loss was a MacBook Air laptop, miscellaneous jewelry, a backpack, and cash.

0021 Hours: Officers responded to Anvers Place where a male wearing a black and white jacket was reported to possibly be prowling in various yards and driveways. A 29 year old male of Newark was found ducking behind vehicles in a driveway. He was arrested for 11550(a) H&S – under the influence of narcotics and was transported to Fremont PD Jail.


January 31, 2016

1548 Hours: CSO Parks responded out to a residence in the 6100 block of Joaquin Murieta Ave. A case was taken for vandalism to a rear entry slider. The exterior pane of the dual paned slider was shattered with an unknown object.

February 1, 2016

1258 Hours: Officer Kovach conducted a traffic stop on Cedar Blvd. and arrested a 19 year old male of San Jose for driving with a suspended license -14601.1(a) CVC and possession of marijuana in a vehicle - 23222(b) CVC. He was released on a citation. His vehicle was towed.

1901 Hours: After responding to a report of two subjects passed out in a vehicle in front of the 7-11 store located at 7288 Thornton Avenue. Officer Kovach arrested a 36 year old male of Newark and a 37 year old male of San Jose for public intoxication. Both were also found in possession of cocaine and numerous fraudulent credit cards earning them additional charges of 11350(a) H&S and 484f (a) PC. Both were booked at Santa Rita Jail.

February 2, 2016

1844 Hours: Officer Cervantes investigated a citizen’s arrest/shoplifting case that occurred at the NewPark Mall JC Penney’s store. An 18 year old female of Union City was cited and released at the scene for petty theft.

2346 Hours: Three patrons from O’Sullivan’s (5660 Thornton Avenue) called to report an intoxicated subject had just left the bar and was now driving towards Thornton Ave. While Officers were checking the area, the drunk driver returned to the bar prompting the three patrons to call police again and place the driver under citizen’s arrest for DUI. Officer Cervantes handled the investigation and arranged for 38 year old male of Newark to be booked at Santa Rita Jail for 23152(a) VC.

February 3, 2016

0848 Hours: Detective Warren investigated a theft of a vehicle from 7881 Wells Ave. The theft occurred between 1900 and 0800 hours. Taken was a green 1992 Honda Accord 4 dr., CA # 6ERK826. The vehicle also has a white spoiler on the back and a crossbones sticker.

February 4, 2016

0715 Hours: Officers Fredstrom and Warren developed information that a wanted person out of Texas was staying at the EZ-8 Motel. A 45 year old transient female was located and arrested for her extraditable elder abuse warrant. She was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

1013 Hours: Officer Fredstrom investigated a commercial burglary at ETM Electromatic Inc., 35451 Dumbarton Court. Unknown suspect(s) cut a pad lock on an exterior chain link fence and stole tools, two trash cans, and other miscellaneous items.

1337 Hours: Officer Fredstrom arrested a 46 year old male of Newark for his three drug related warrants. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

1446 Hours: Officer Allum investigated a minor injury collision involving 3 vehicles in the 36000 block of Newark Blvd.

1646 Hours: Officer Fredstrom responded to Macy's, located at 200 NewPark Mall, and arrested a 23 year old male of Stockton for petty theft after he was caught stealing two jackets. He was issued a citation.

2016 Hours: Officer Horst responded to JC Penney on a report of a shoplifter in custody. A 26 year old male of San Jose, was later cited and released for petty theft.

0109 Hours: NPD officers responded to the Chevron gas station on Thornton Ave on report of a male caller saying someone was trying to kill him. Upon their arrival, a 24 year old male of Newark, jumped out of the dumpster claiming he was being chased. Officer Ackerman arrested the male for being under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant and booked him at Santa Rita Jail.

February 5, 2016

0557 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a vehicle burglary which occurred overnight in the 37000 block of Magnolia St. Loss was a backpack and tools.

0613 Hours: Officer Fredstrom investigated the theft of a vehicle, a white 1994 Nissan XE pick-up, CA #5L37687 was taken from in front of a residence in the 37200 block of Oak St. between 2300 and 0535 hours.

0645 Hours: Detective Warren investigated a vehicle burglary in the Safeway parking lot, 5877 Jarvis Ave. The victim parked her vehicle at 0620 hours; at 0625 hours a motorcycle pulls up (described as a roadster style, possibly a Harley Davidson), and the rider breaks into vehicle and takes purse.

1106 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted a 51 year old male of Newark in the 4900 block of Derby Pl. and arrested him on his drug and DUI warrants. He was booked at the Fremont Jail.

1226 Hours: Officer Knutson investigated the theft of a vehicle, a green 1999 Honda Civic, 4 dr., CA # 4DZV058 was taken from a residence in the 6400 block of Buena Vista Dr. between 2330 and 1200 hours.

1835 Hours: A hit and run property damage only collision occurred in the Safeway parking lot where the responsible vehicle is described as being red in color.

2209 Hours: Officer Johnson stopped a car on Mowry Ave near Alpenrose. The vehicle was determined to have false plates which were ultimately seized. The unlicensed driver denied responsibility. The vehicle’s owner responded to retrieve the vehicle. He also denied knowing about the false registration tabs, but the owner did have a felony warrant for insurance fraud out of Santa Clara County. The vehicle’s owner, a 35 year old male of Hayward, was arrested and booked at Fremont Jail for his warrant.

0114 Hours: Officer Rodgers investigated a stabbing at O’Sullivan’s bar (5660 Thornton Avenue). A fight broke out in the parking lot of the bar over two women feuding over the same man. A mutual combat battery between two very intoxicated females escalated when a 24 year old female of Union City stabbed the victim twice in the stomach and once in the upper thigh with a pocket knife. The victim was transported to a local trauma center. The suspect was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon - 245(a)(1) PC and she was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

February 6, 2016

1402 Hours: Officers responded to a solo motorcycle collision on Carter Ave near the tracks. The motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed on Filbert Street as he approached Carter Avenue. He was unable to safely navigate the turn and crashed into the center median. He suffered nonlife threatening injuries but was transported to a local trauma center for evaluation.

2104 Hours: Officer Rodgers investigated a residential burglary that occurred at a residence in the 6200 block of Joaquin Murieta between 1840 – 0040 hours the previous day. Entry was made through a rear slider pried lock. Loss was a MacBook Pro Laptop and various watches.

0527 Hours: Officer Johnson located a stolen Suzuki motorcycle out of Pleasanton parked to the rear of the Residence Inn hotel.

February 7, 2016

0646 Hours: Officer Johnson had just finished locating a stolen motorcycle (see above) when he came upon a suspicious vehicle at the Shell gas station on Jarvis Ave. Officer Johnson made contact and arrested a 33 year old male of Hayward for possession of methamphetamine -11377(a) H&S. He was released on a citation.

1012 Hours: Officers Mapes and Musantry responded to a residence in the 36500 block of Buetke Dr. for a warrant service. Officer Musantry arrested a 29 year old male of Newark on his no-cite DUI warrant out of San Jose. He was booked at the Fremont Jail.

1159 Hours: Officer Nobbe investigated vandalism at Citi Bank, 2900 Newark Mall. Sometime over night an unknown suspect/s threw a rock through the window, causing it to break.

1437 Hours: Officers responded to the 6200 block of Broadway Ave. on a report of a collision. Officer Losier determined no collision had occurred, but the driver was under the influence. The driver, a 34 year old female of Newark, was arrested for 23152(e) CVC - DUI.

1650 Hours: Officer Musantry accepted a citizen’s arrest from JC Penny’s at NewPark Mall of a 57 year old female of Fremont. She was released on a citation for 484(a) PC – petty theft.

0139 Hours: Officer Simon contacted a 32 year old male of Newark during a traffic stop on Larkspur St at Lotus Ct. The male had a no bail misdemeanor warrant for DUI out of Alameda County. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

0235 Hours: Officer Simon contacted a 26 year old male of Newark on a traffic stop on Cherry St near the Ohlone campus. The driver had a misdemeanor warrant for various drug offenses out of San Jose. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

February 8, 2016

0633 Hours: Officer Losier responded to the Courtyard Marriott, 34905 Newark Blvd. and arrested a 29 year old female of Oakland on her drug warrant out of Alabama. She was booked at the Fremont Jail.

1040 Hours: Officer Mapes contacted a 23 year old male of Newark in the 37000 block of Glenmoor Dr., Fremont. He was arrested on his domestic violence (243(e) (1)) warrant and booked at the Fremont Jail.

1251 Hours: Officer Nobbe investigated a disturbance at 6017 Morning Glory Ct. A 46 year old transient male was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and released on a citation.

1642 Hours: Officers responded to an injury collision involving a motorcycle and vehicle in the 8200 block of Peachtree Ave. Officer Losier discovered a 14 year old female and her 12 year old brother were riding an electric Razor motorcycle and crossed into the path of a vehicle. The 14 year old was transported to a local trauma center.

1743 Hours: Officer Cervantes investigated a citizen’s arrest/shoplifting case at the NewPark Mall JC Penney’s store. A 21 year old female of Oakland and a 20 year old female of Oakland were both issued citations and released for 484(a) PC – petty theft.

2237 Hours: Officer Norvell investigated a solo-vehicle non-injury traffic collision involving a speeding vehicle that lost control on Thornton Ave. and ended up stuck in the marshlands.

0333 Hours: Officer Cervantes handled another traffic collision (vehicle vs. parked vehicle) that occurred on Sycamore St.
