On Sunday February 7th at approximately 10:00pm, an APD officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 800 block of N Polk. The driver was identified as LT Smith B/M 49. Officers returned to their vehicle to check Mr. Smith for any outstanding warrants when they discovered that Smith had an outstanding municipal court traffic warrant. As officers approached Mr. Smith’s car they observed a silver handgun lying in the floor board. Officers removed Smith from the car and placed him in handcuffs in a patrol car. Upon checking the pistol it was discovered it had been stole in a residential burglary in 2006. Smith was transported and booked into the Potter County Correction Center on a charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and the outstanding municipal warrant. The stolen pistol was seized as evidence and will be returned to the owner at a later time.
