Full Notification

On 2/08/16 Chula Vista Police received a call from a concerned wife who was afraid her husband was about to drive intoxicated. She said that he lived at the apartment complex at 840 Third Ave. She told dispatchers that he had access to guns and may be suicidal. When officers arrived they heard several gun shots in the area of the man’s apartment. Witnesses told police that the man was outside the apartment shooting a handgun in the air. Police determined the man was alone in the apartment. SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation Team responded. The man was in and out of the apartment but did not fire again. At about midnight the SWAT Team approached the apartment and took the man into custody without incident. The suspect was arrested for the negligent discharge of a firearm. The suspect was identified as 27 year old Abraham Lopez. Traffic was closed on Third Avenue during the incident.
