Beware of IRS phone scams. Many cons claim to be IRS officials, demanding immediate payment and personal information!

There has been numorous reports of these calls being made to Sheboygan residents today.  We are re-publishing this message as a reminder to safeguard your personal information.

It's tax season and we would like to remind everyone to be aware of phone scams in which a caller are pretends to be from the IRS. Cons make calls claiming to be IRS officials, demanding payment and will often threaten arrest if they don't receive their money.

The IRS will never demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill. The IRS will not require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card or ask for credit/debit card information over the phone.
