Apple Valley - Murder investigation, suspect arrested in Richfield, Utah awaiting extradition back to SB County

DATE/TIME: Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 9:48 p.m.

INCIDENT: Murder

LOCATION: 18300 block of Taloga Road, Apple Valley

SUSPECT(S): Laurence Caureliola Mixon, 30 year old, transient

VICTIM(S): Brandon Huff, 30 year old resident of Victorville

SUMMARY: On Saturday, January 30, 2016, at approximately 9:50 p.m., deputies assigned to the Apple Valley Police Department responded to a 911 emergency call of someone being stabbed at an apartment in the 18300 block of Taloga Road. Upon arrival, deputies found the victim, Brandon Huff, suffering from a stab wound. Huff was transported to Saint Mary Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. Detectives from the Sheriff's Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail were requested to assume the investigation.

During the investigation, detectives identified Laurence Caureliola Mixon as the suspect responsible for the murder of Huff. Mixon fled the scene prior to the deputies arrival. On Monday, February 1, 2016, at approximately 9:00 a.m., detectives developed information that Mixon was in a vehicle driving east on Interstate 70 near Richfield, Utah. Detectives contacted the Utah Highway Patrol and requested their assistance in checking the area for Mixon and the vehicle he was in. At approximately 9:40 a.m., troopers from the Utah Highway Patrol, located Mixon driving east on Interstate 70, near Richfield. Detectives from the Sheriff's Homicide Detail immediately responded to Richfield to speak with Mixon and two other occupants in the vehicle. Following the detectives investigation, Mixon was booked into Sevier County Jail in Richfield on a warrant for his arrest for murder. Mixon is scheduled to appear in court in Sevier County, next Tuesday, for a hearing related to his extradition back to San Bernardino County.
