The Jackson Police Department is accepting applications for its Lateral Entry Program. Potential candidates will test March 12, 2016.

“If you are a certified officer desiring a career with opportunities for advancement, benefits and a compatible salary, I encourage you to apply with the Jackson Police Department,” said Police Chief Julian Wiser. “We also are offering a $3,000 sign on bonus for current P.O.S.T. certified officers who lateral into our program.”

To be considered for a lateral position, applicants must have current P.O.S.T. certification or out-of-state certification acceptable to the Tennessee P.O.S.T. Commission (minimum of 400 hours).

Starting salaries for officers in the department’s lateral entry program are $17.44 an hour or $36,275.20 a year for one year of experience as a certified officer, $18 an hour or $37,440 a year for two years as a certified officer, $19.73 an hour or $41,038.40 a year for three years, and $20.82 an hour or $43,305.60 a year for four or more years as a certified officer.
