Death Investigation Underway in Clay County
Clay County—Indiana State Police Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators are assisting the Clay County Sheriff’s Office with a death investigation at 208 West Columbus Street in Staunton. The victim appears to be a middle aged white female found inside the residence.
At approximately 2:57 this afternoon, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a deceased female in the home. Deputies arrived at the scene and confirmed the information. Clay County Sheriff Paul Harden then requested assistance from the Indiana State Police.
Evidence at the scene suggests foul play. Investigators from both agencies have been conducting several interviews and at this time, ISP and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office do not believe there is a public safety concern for area residents.
An autopsy is scheduled later this week at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
No other information will be released at this time. As soon as developments arise, they will be released.
