Redwood City Police are Investigating Child Annoying Incidents

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Child Annoying Incidents

SUSPECT: Hispanic Male, Approximately 30 years-old

SUSPECT VEHICLE: Blue or Dark Colored 4-Door Sedan
Possibly a Honda or Toyota Type Vehicle

SUMMARY:

Redwood City Police are actively investigating four recent incidents where an unknown subject annoyed students on their way to and from school. The Police Department has been working closely with the Sequoia High School District and the Redwood City School District to alert students, parents and the community about the incidents.

On January 15, 2016, at approximately 9:30 am, a 15 year-old male was walking to school in the area of Red Morton Park when a subject drove up to him and asked for directions. The subject then offered the boy a ride and when he refused the subject drove away. The subject was described as a Hispanic male adult driving a small blue 4-door sedan.

On January 27, 2016, at approximately 6:00 pm, a 15 year-old female student was leaving the Sequoia High School campus when a subject drove up to her and asked her for directions. The subject then offered her a ride. The student declined the ride and walked away. The subject drove off. The subject was described as a white male adult, driving a dark colored 4-door sedan.

On January 28, 2016, at approximately 8:45 am, a 15 year-old female student was walking to school in the area of Vera Avenue and Sapphire Street, when a subject pulled up to her in a vehicle and asked for directions. The subject then offered to drive the girl to school. She refused the ride and walked away. The subject then drove off. The subject was described as a Hispanic male adult driving a blue 4-door sedan.

On January 29, 2016, at approximately 4:30 pm, a 14 year-old male student, was walking home from school in the area of Roosevelt Avenue and Virginia Street, when a subject pulled up to him in a vehicle and asked for directions. The subject then offered to drive the boy home. The boy declined the ride and the subject drove away. The subject was described as a Hispanic male in his thirties, driving a dark blue 4-door vehicle, possibly a Honda or Toyota.

The Redwood City Police Department is actively investigating these incidents and is utilizing our detectives and patrol officers to increase security around all our schools. Redwood City police are encouraging parents to discuss appropriate safety precautions with their children and to stress the importance of never entering a stranger’s vehicle and to report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 911 and if possible record the license plate number of the vehicle.
