Three Subjects Arrested on Various Drug Charges

Lafayette-Yesterday, Troopers with the Indiana State Police out of the Lafayette Post rounded up three people on local warrants for various drug charges and housed them in the Tippecanoe County Jail.

Troopers Ryan Winters and Ben Rector started this investigation almost three years ago and the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office issued warrants for Corey A. Balser, 24 of Lafayette.  The warrant was for:

  • Corrupt Business Influence a Class C Felony
  • Conspiracy to Deal Marijuana, Hash Oil, Salvia or Synthetic Cannabinoid a Class C Felony
  • Two counts of Dealing in Marijuana, Hash Oil, Salvia or Synthetic Cannabinoid a Class D Felony
  • Two counts of Possession of Marijuana a Class D Felony
  •  Two Counts of Dealing in Synthetic Drugs or Look alike Drugs with prior unrelated  conviction/judgment a Class D Felony

Balser was taken into custody at 814 South 30th St. at approximately 8:45 a.m.  Also taken into custody at the residence was Damon L. Hegg, 39 of Lafayette.  Hegg was arrested on a warrant charging him with:

  • Corrupt Business Influence a Class C Felony
  • Conspiracy to Deal Marijuana, Hash Oil, Salvia or Synthetic Cannabinoid a Class C Felony
  • Dealing in Synthetic Drugs or Look alike Drug when a recipient is less than 18 years of age a Class D Felony
  • Two Counts of Driving while being an Habitual Traffic Offender a Class D Felony

A third suspect, Christopher L. Ray 19 of 814 South St. Lafayette was taken into custody and charged with Possession of Synthetic Marijuana a Class B Misdemeanor.  He was also transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail.

This investigation was initiated on April of 2013.  The investigation is still ongoing with further charges pending.  Assisting at the scene were Troopers A.J. Smith, Tyler Stinson, Jared McQueary and Probationary Troopers Colton Maynor and Peter Stephan with assistance from the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
