The Jackson Police Department will honor members of the Citizens Police Academy at 11 a.m. Feb. 3 in the police department’s lobby, 234 Institute St.

The members of the Citizens Police Academy volunteer their time and service in many ways in the Jackson community.

For example, police academy members helped out at the recent open house at the Safe Hope Center on Roland Avenue. The men and women in the police academy volunteer at many community events, including Jackson Symphony performances, Area Relief Ministries HUB City Basketball Tournament, annual rodeo at Oman Arena, Blue Suede concert, the Go Red for Women Auction, the Circles of Hope Telethon and the Police Memorial Luncheon.

“These volunteers provide service in a spirit of excellence because they care,” said Jackson Police Chief Julian Wiser. “Many of the duties they perform ensure the safety and overall enjoyment of event attendees.”

The Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association was formed in 1993 after the completion of the first Citizens Police Academy class in Jackson.

“We invite the public to join us on Feb. 3 as we celebrate the members of the Citizens Police Academy who serve this community with honor and faithfulness,” Wiser said.
