ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON ON OFFICER
On Monday, Jan. 18th, around 10:20 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance on the 3800 block of Amy Place. An unknown suspect was in the resident’s backyard, pounding on their bedroom window. WEEK IN REVIEW

Robberies and Robbery Attempts:
On Monday, Jan. 18th, around 8 p.m., Ofc. Martin was dispatched to a possible hit and run collision with a pedestrian in the El Mercado Center (corner of Alvarado-Niles Rd. and Decoto Rd.). The victim did not remember what occurred, but it is believed that a suspect in a passing vehicle pulled the purse from her shoulder, causing her to fall and possibly be dragged. She may have subsequently been hit by the vehicle. Witnesses described a black four-door BMW drive out of the area at a high rate of speed, but it is unknown if the vehicle was involved.

On Saturday, Jan. 23rd, around 11:45 p.m., Ofc. Ziya was dispatched to the report of an attempted robbery that occurred in the area of Fredi St. and Queensboro Way. The victim was walking from his car with his cell phone in his hand when two suspects approached him. One of them demanded his cell phone, but the victim refused. Both suspects then pointed knives at the victim, at which point he turned and ran away. He fell to the ground, and the second suspect kicked him in the face. They both fled on foot toward Fredi St. There was no loss. The first suspect was described as a black male, 15-18 years old, 5’0” and 120 lbs. The second suspect was described as a black male, 15-18 years old, 5’2” and 130 lbs.

On Saturday, Jan. 23rd, around 11:50 p.m., Ofc. Rivas responded to the 30 block of Union Square on reports of a robbery attempt. The victim was walking from the BART station when someone hit him on the back of the neck and yelled something that was not in English. The victim ran to a nearby vehicle for help, and the suspect fled on foot toward the BART station. There was no loss.

Shortly thereafter, around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24th, Sgt. Holt was in the area of 27 Union Square when he observed a male suspect punch or push a victim to the ground, while a female suspect appeared to act as a look-out. Both suspects were immediately taken into custody. There was no loss. Erica Sedano, an 18-year-old Union City resident, and Sebastian Melgoza, a 20-year-old Union City resident, were both arrested for robbery.

Grand Theft:
On Wednesday, Jan. 20th, around 10:30 a.m., Ofc. Paul was dispatched to a theft report at a gas station. Sometime between 5:40 a.m. and 5:45 a.m., someone stole two cases of cigarettes worth about $4,000 from a delivery truck.

On Sunday, Jan. 24th, there were two incidents of “shoulder surfing” at Bank of America on Alvarado Blvd. Both victims lost $1,000. A possible suspect vehicle was described as a silver Toyota Prius. Please read the below ATM safety tips.

Assault with a Firearm:
On Sunday, Jan. 24th, around 8:15 p.m., Ofc. Jensen responded to the 34800 block of Starling Dr. on the report of a battery. During a verbal argument about a car the victim sold to the suspect, the suspect punched the victim in the face and then pointed a handgun at him. The suspect is known to police officers, and there is currently an active felony warrant for his arrest.

ATM SAFETY
Always be mindful of your surroundings when you are using an ATM, especially if it is outside. If your bank has a drive-through ATM or an ATM in a secure lobby, use that instead. After you complete a transaction, most ATMs will ask you if you want to conduct another transaction. Make sure you push “no” before you walk away from the machine. Many ATMs have mirrors on them, so you can see if someone else approaches the machine. If anyone does, or if someone in line is standing close enough to see what you are doing, immediately cancel your transaction, remove your card and walk away.
