On January 25, 2016 at 10:55p.m, Manhattan Beach Police Department received a call of a traffic collision on Ardmore Avenue at 19^th Street.  Multiple callers reported a vehicle had struck a wall and occupants were trapped inside.  Witnesses provided assistance until police and paramedics arrived.  Initial investigation by Traffic Officers revealed the driver, Brandon Mark Rodriguez (24yrs), who is a Hawthorne resident was under the influence of alcohol and driving at a high rate of speed.  The passenger, Javier Rubio (24yrs) a resident of Lawndale was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to witnesses and substantiated by the preliminary investigation, Brandon was driving his 1999 Chevrolet Camaro at a high rate of speed southbound Ardmore Avenue.  At 19^th Street, it appears he lost control and skid into a retaining wall of a residence.  Brandon Rodriguez was transported to an area hospital where he is currently undergoing medical treatment.
