Wrong Way Semi Driver Arrested For OWI
New Castle – Shortly before 10 p.m. last evening, Field Training Officer Thomas Ratliff was with Trooper Justin Beamon on a traffic stop on I-70 east bound, near the top of the ramp from east I-70 to SR3, the New Castle exit. As the two sat in their car on the stop they saw a semi coming towards them, west bound up the east bound exit ramp the wrong direction.
The two troopers left the stop they were on and drove up to the semi that was now stopped, facing west bound on the east bound emergency strip, at the top of the ramp. They were able to get the truck stopped just before it was about to attempt an illegal U-turn out into the east bound lanes of I-70.
After stopping the truck and making contact with the driver of the 2012 Kenworth, Gill Bhagwan Kingh, A.K.A. Phagawan Balwant Singh, age 45 of Northridge, California, it was determined he was driving impaired. Further investigation led the troopers to arrest him for Operating While Intoxicated, Endangerment, Class “A” Misdemeanor; Disorderly Conduct, Class “B” Misdemeanor and issue him a ticket for Wrong Way on a One Way Road.
Mr. Kingh, who was celebrating his 45th birthday yesterday, was lodged in the Henry County Jail. Remember, with the Super Bowl season approaching, if you're going to be out celebrating, don't drive impaired. Always plan ahead to have a designated driver.
Motorists are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911. Give a vehicle description, location, and direction of travel. Never follow an impaired driver.
