MAYOR BARAKA EXTENDS TRAVEL BAN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

MAYOR BARAKA EXTENDS TRAVEL BAN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Emergency vehicles have been obstructed from carrying out calls and snow plow operations have been impeded due to vehicles stuck in snow

NEWARK—Mayor Ras Baraka has extended the travel ban imposed on Saturday evening for the City of Newark until further notice, stating that an overwhelming number of police, fire and OEM vehicles have been obstructed due to vehicles stuck in the snow throughout the City.

"Although we cautioned residents beginning on Friday about venturing out into the hazardous conditions caused by the snowstorm, many disregarded these appeals yesterday and brought their cars out onto the street and got stuck in the snow. This has impeded fire, police and other emergency vehicles and hampered snow plow operations as a result. We are asking all Newarkers to refrain from going out so that we can continue the task of clearing streets and moving our emergency vehicles."

The travel ban affects everyone in Newark and will remain in effect until further notice. Any private vehicles that are found blocking streets and causing a hazard will be relocated by City contracted towing services and ticketed, if necessary.
