ISP Investigating Theft of Police Vehicle

Pendleton – Last night shortly after 11 p.m. the Indiana State Police responded to a call to assist the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department with a felony stop of a stolen vehicle with multiple occupants. The stolen vehicle, a red four door 1996 Dodge, listed stolen from Indianapolis, was northbound on I-69 and being followed by two Hamilton County Deputies and a Fisher’s Police vehicle.

The Dodge exited at Pendleton and entered the McDonalds Restaurant lot on SR38, where officers made a felony stop on the vehicle. The three occupants of the stolen car were handcuffed and placed into police vehicles.

A female passenger from the car, later identified as Tori Hostetler, age 21 of Monrovia, was handcuffed and placed into the rear seat of a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department Chevrolet Tahoe. After failing to get proper identification from Hostetler, the deputy stepped out to confer with other officers on the scene.

While the deputy was outside his vehicle, Hostetler, who is thin with a slight build, was able to somehow slip the handcuffs and gain control of the Police Tahoe.  She fled the scene headed east on SR 38 with officers in pursuit.

The pursuit continued through Pendleton east on SR 38 into Henry County, where Hostetler turned north on CR 525 West. Hostetler bailed out of the moving vehicle and ran in the area of CR 525 W and 200 North.  A perimeter was set up by officers from multiple agencies, and K-9 officers searched the area, but were unable to locate her.

This morning around 10:30 a.m. Hostetler was arrested by Henry County Deputies after receiving information from a homeowner that she was at a residence on 200N.  Hostetler was taken into custody for two Felony warrants out of Hendricks County for Resisting Law Enforcement, and Probation Violation for a Dealing Marijuana charge.

Hostetler, who was lodged in the Henry County Jail, will initially be taken to Hendricks County to face her warrant charges there. She then will be brought back to Madison County to face Level 6 Felony charges of Vehicle Theft and Resisting Law Enforcement.  In addition she will face numerous traffic violations and a misdemeanor charge of Leaving the Scene of an Accident in Henry County. She remains lodged in the Henry County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing, with further charges possible.  Agencies assisting in the investigation were the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, Fisher’s Police Department, Pendleton Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Department and the Henry County Sheriff’s Department.

NOTE: Please refer any questions on the arrests involving the stolen Dodge to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, and questions about the arrest of Tori Hostetler to the Henry County Sheriff’s Department.

All Suspects Are Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty in a Court of Law
