On 01/22/2016 just before 9:00 am, Steuben County Sheriff’s detectives located and apprehended an alleged non-complaint registered sex offender in the 400 block of West Maumee Street in Angola. 25 year old Mitchell W. Hephner of Angola was taken into custody without incident by Sheriff’s detectives on an arrest warrant out of LaGrange County, Indiana. The warrant follows a LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office investigation into allegations that Hephner failed to register as a sex or violent offender in LaGrange County. Steuben County Sheriff’s detectives were also investigating similar allegations in Steuben County and additional charges may be sought against Hephner. Hephner was transported to the LaGrange County Jail where he remains held pending an initial court appearance in a LaGrange County court.
