South Pasadena PD Hosting Multi-Agency Active Shooter Training Exercise on Friday, Jan 22 at So Pas Middle School

On Friday, January 22, 2016 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, the South Pasadena Police Department, in conjunction with the South Pasadena Unified School District and regional law enforcement and fire service partners, will be conducting a multi-agency active shooter exercise at South Pasadena Middle School, 1500 Fair Oaks Av. in the City of South Pasadena. The exercise will include over seventy-five first responders from seven regional law enforcement and fire departments training together and honing their coordinated response to active shooter events. The exercise will provide training opportunities for police and fire personnel to work together in simulated austere environments by assembling Rescue Task Force elements to go downrange and treat and triage casualties in the “warm zone.” January 22nd is a staff development day for the Middle School faculty and staff and students will not be attending school.

Active shooter events are some of the most challenging incidents that first responders face. This type of event quickly depletes resources and a coordinated and seamless mutual-aid response from regional partners is fundamental to an effective overall response. This exercise represents over a year’s worth of planning, coordinating and training in Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) by the seven agencies in preparation for the event and will focus on the quick and effective medical treatment of casualties within the area of operations. The following law enforcement and fire departments are scheduled to participate in the exercise:

• Alhambra Police Department • Alhambra Fire Department • Federal Bureau of Investigation • Monterey Park Police Department • Monterey Park Fire Department • Pasadena Police Department • San Gabriel Police Department • San Gabriel Fire Department • San Marino Police Department • San Marino Fire Department • South Pasadena Police Department • South Pasadena Fire Department

South Pasadena Police Chief Art Miller, in partnership with law enforcement and fire chiefs from the participating agencies, will hold a press conference at 9:00am at South Pasadena Middle School in advance of the first scenario. South Pasadena PIO, Captain Mike Neff, will be coordinating the press conference and opportunity for the press to view portions of the exercise. Specific instructions regarding press viewing will be provided by Captain Neff at the conclusion of the press conference. Captain Neff can be contacted at [email protected] or 626-403-7292 with any questions.
