Under the Influence Results in a Crash and Arrest

Vigo County—This afternoon at 4:27, Indiana State Police and Vigo County emergency agencies responded to a one-vehicle crash with entrapment on State Road 63 just north of Springhill Drive.

Preliminary investigation revealed 24-year-old Samantha D. Peak of Terre Haute was driving her 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on SR 63 and suddenly crossed over the center line and southbound lanes, ultimately traveling into the grounds of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The Cherokee continued through approximately 100 feet of snow fence and then traveled back across both lanes of SR 63 and into a number of trees on the east side of SR 63. Peak was entrapped for approximately 10 minutes before being extricated by members of Honey Creek Fire/Rescue. Peak was then transported to Terre Haute Regional ER by paramedics from Riley Fire/EMS.

Peak was treated for a wrist fracture and complaint of leg pain. Peak also tested positive for marijuana, benzodiazepines, and opiates. Upon release from the hospital, Peak was incarcerated in the Vigo County Jail for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.

The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Erik Smith. Assisting were ISP Sergeant Chris Wright and Trooper Nicole Cheeks, Honey Creek Fire/Rescue, and Riley Fire/EMS.
