The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

January 13, 2016

1250 Hours: Officer Knutson contacted and arrested a 53 year old transient male for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1750 Hours: NPD Officers were dispatched to McDonald’s, located at 3000 Newpark Mall Rd, for a subject brandishing a hunting knife to employees. A patron claimed a transient looking subject fled the area on a bicycle. Within a few minutes, employees at Ninjo Castle, located at 39888 Balentine Dr, reported a similar subject was in their restaurant brandishing a similar hunting knife. The suspect then fled from Ninjo Castle on a bicycle. The subject was not located and Officer Fredstrom is investigating both crimes. The suspect is described as an Asian or white male adult, 30-35 years of age, with a motorcycle-style jacket. The knife was described as a “Rambo” style hunting knife, silver in color, with white stripes on the handle.

0318 Hours: Officer Prakash took a stolen vehicle report from 36145 Orleans Drive. The vehicle was stolen between 2300-0245 Hours. It is a White 1998 Acura Integra, CA Plate # 4WDK055.

0357 Hours: Officer Kovach arrested a 38 year old male of Newark at the Shell gas station on Jarvis. The male had three warrants and was arrested without incident. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

January 14, 2016

0140 Hours: Officer Homayoun arrested a 46 year old male of Newark for 11377(a)H&S for possession of methamphetamine after contacting him on Mowry School Road. He was cited and released at the scene.

0242 Hours: During a check of an occupied vehicle at the Aloft Hotel, Officer Johnson arrested a 39 year old transient male for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant out of Santa Cruz County. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

1909 Hours: Officer Johnson investigated a solo vehicle traffic collision (vehicle vs. center median) that occurred on Newark Blvd. near Thornton Ave.

January 15, 2016

0726 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 28 year old male of Newark for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked at Fremont Jail.

0756 Hours: Officers responded to the area of 6245 Joaquin Murietta Dr, after a driver called to report hitting a parked vehicle. Upon arrival, Officer Ackerman contacted A 49 year old male of Newark and determined he was driving under the influence of prescription medication and narcotics, with his 10 year old daughter in the vehicle, when the collision occurred. He was arrested for 23152(e) CVC – DUI and 273a PC - child endangerment. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1458 Hours: Officer Horst was dispatched to the 36300 block of Cedar Blvd, for a suspicious subject going door to door in the neighborhood. Officer Horst contacted and arrested a 20 year old male from Georgia for being under the influence of a controlled substance (11550 H&S ). He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1611 Hours: Officer Jackman was dispatched to 5605 Mowry School Rd, for an audible alarm activation. Officer Jackman arrived and determined it was a false alarm. During his investigation, Officer Jackman contacted a 35 year old male of Fremont and found him to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Officer Jackman arrested the male and issued him a citation for 11364.1 H&S.


January 16, 2016

0854 Hours: Officer Mapes arrested a 34 year old male of Newark for his outstanding felony warrant and possession of methamphetamine. He was contacted at his residence in the 6200 block of Bennington Dr. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

0854 Hours: Officer Musantry arrested a 32 year old female of Newark for her two outstanding felony warrants. She was contacted at her residence in the 6200 block of Bennington Dr. She was taken into custody and later booked at Fremont Jail.

0930 Hours: Officer Katz arrested a 26 year old female of Newark for her outstanding misdemeanor warrant. Officer Katz was conducting a warrant service at a residence in the 6100 block of Madelaine Dr. She was issued a new court date and released on a notice to appear. While at the residence Officer Katz contacted a 23 year old male of Newark, who was at the residence in violation of a court order. The male was arrested for 166.4 PC And released on a citation.

1026 Hours: Officer Nobbe arrested a 19 year old male of Newark for an outstanding domestic violence warrant. He was transported and booked at Fremont Jail.

1103 Hours: Officer Musantry arrested a 28 year old male of Newark at his residence in the 35400 block of Newark Blvd. He was wanted for an outstanding no-cite misdemeanor warrant. He was later booked at Fremont Jail.

1153 Hours: Officer Mapes conducted a probation search at a residence in the 36700 block of Hafner St. A 36 year old male of Newark and a 30 year old female of Newark were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were issued citations and released.

1308 Hours: Officer Katz contacted a 50 year old female of Newark while checking a homeless encampment near St. Isabel and the railroad tracks. She was on probation and during a search of her property drug paraphernalia was located. She was arrested and released on a citation.

1350 Hours: Officer Katz, Officer Mapes, and Officer Musantry contacted a 49 year old male of Newark, a 52 year old male of Newark, and a 61 year old male of Newark at a homeless camp near Hwy I880 and Thornton Ave. During the contact 8 pounds of marijuana, 1 gram of methamphetamine and a homemade short billy club was located. All three suspects were arrested; The 49 year old male and the 52 year old male were cited for 11357(c) H&S possession of over an ounce of marijuana. The 61 year old male was arrested for 11377 H&S – possession of methamphetamine, 11357(c) H&S - possession of over an ounce of marijuana, and 22210 PC- possession of an illegal weapon. He was also released on a citation.

1434 Hours: Officer Mapes spotted a 29 year old male of Newark walking on Central Ave near Birch St. that Officer Mapes knew the male had a no cite misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. The male was contacted and taken into custody. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

1435 Hours: Officer Katz conducted a probation search at a residence in the 37800 block of Birch Street. During the search Officer Katz located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Officer Katz arrested a 53 year old male of Newark for 11377 H&S – possession of methamphetamine and 11364.1 H&S - possession of drug paraphernalia . He was issued a citation and released. Officer Musantry also arrested a 49 year old female for possession of hash oil. She was issued a citation for 11357(a) H&S.

1503Hours: Officer Mapes accepted the arrest of a 57 year old male of Newark from JC Penny’s loss prevention after he was caught stealing women’s clothing items. He was arrested and issued a citation for 484 PC - petty theft and was released with a court date.

1956 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a residential burglary in the 37000 block of Walnut St. Unknown suspects jumped the rear fence and broke the side window to a detached in-law unit.

January 17, 2016

1822 Hours: Officers were dispatched for an auto vs. pedestrian collision in the parking lot of Sushi Express (35233 Newark Blvd). An elderly female was struck by a car as she walked with her husband through the parking lot to the restaurant. She suffered only minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The driver was cited for driving without a license.

2103 Hours: While patrolling the area of Baine Ave and Birch St. Officer Simon located a 34 year old female of Newark, who had two outstanding no bail misdemeanor warrants. During a search of her person methamphetamine was discovered as well as drug paraphernalia. She was booked at Fremont Jail.

January 18, 2016

0841 Hours: Officer Mapes and Officer Musantry responded to a residence in the 6300 block of Mirabeau Dr. for a warrant service. A 25 year old male was located at his home and arrested on his felony warrant out of Santa Clara County. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

1147 Hours: A 34 year old male was observed walking behind the Alameda County Fire Station located at Newark Blvd and Ruschin Ave by fire personal. One of the firefighters confronted the male and asked him what he was doing behind the fire station. During this conversation, a plastic back containing a crystal like substance fell from the male’s jacket pocket. The firefighter saw the object hit the ground and collected it after the male rode his bike away. The firefighter believed the item was narcotics and called NPD. Officer Mapes stopped the male near the rear of the fire station. ALCO Fire identified the male as the person he talked to and that dropped the bag full of a white powdery substance. Officer Mapes recovered 12 grams of methamphetamine some of which was already packaged into small quantities. The male was arrested and booked at Fremont Jail for 11378 H&S – possession of methamphetamine for sales .

1852 Hours: Officers responded to a family disturbance at an apartment in the 6300 block of Baine Avenue. The responsible male was armed with a knife and threatening to kill his family. Upon arrival, officers located the male as he exited the apartment. A 38 year old male of Newark was arrested for 422 PC – making deadly threats, 273.6 PC – violation of domestic violence order, and 243(e)(1) PC – domestic violence battery. He was booked at Fremont Jail.
