1/17/16, press release: Larceny from a Person

UPDATE:
Based on continued investigation and response to the press release, the Burlington Police Department has identified the suspect of the Larceny from Person incident at the Price Chopper as Brittany Trayah (age 22) of South Burlington VT. On the evening of January 17, 2015, members of the department’s Street Crimes Unit located Trayah at a hotel in South Burlington and took her into custody without incident. In addition to being charged with Larceny from Person, Trayah had an active warrant for Violation of Probation. The warrant was issued after Trayah had violated her conditions of probation in regards to a Petit Larceny conviction. Following her arrest, Trayah was lodged at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Center; bail on warrant had been set at $2,500 and bail on the Larceny from Person charge was set at $750. On January 17, 2016, at 1218 hours the Burlington Police Department responded to 595 Shelburne Road, Price Chopper, for a report of a Larceny from a Person. Officers arrived on scene and were advised that a female suspect entered the premises, approached an unsuspecting elderly female and forcefully removed her purse. The female then immediately fled the store driving away in a Green Subaru wagon bearing Vermont registration GCG699. The female suspect was also in the company of a male who appeared to act as a look out during this incident. The victim was not injured.

A photograph has been attached to this report of the female suspect and her male counterpart. Anyone with information of the identity and whereabouts of these two individuals and there vehicle are asked to contact the Burlington Police Department (802)540-2271 or (802)658-2700.

The penalty for Larceny from a Person shall be punished by a $500.00 fine and 10 years imprisonment.
