Details:
On 01/14/206 at approximately 1757 hours Gilroy Police and Fire Units were dispatched to the area of Wren Avenue and Lawrence Drive on a report of a Vehicle vs. Pedestrian collision, which had just occurred.
Upon arriving police officers found a male subject lying in the middle of Wren Avenue near Lawrence Drive. The male was unconscious and was suffering from head trauma.
The victim was transported by air ambulance to a Bay Area trauma center where he died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.
Through their investigation, Gilroy Police Officers determined that the pedestrian had walked out onto Wren Avenue, apparently attempting to cross from west to east. In doing so, the pedestrian stepped in front of a vehicle traveling south bound on Wren. The pedestrian sped up and jumped to avoid being struck by the south bound vehicle but in doing so, he entered into the northbound lanes and was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Wren Avenue.
The drivers of both the north and south bound vehicles remained on scene and were contacted by the investigating officers. At this time there is no evidence indicating the drivers were under the influence of drugs or alcohol and speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in this collision.
