INCIDENT: Major injury Traffic Collision
LOCATION: El Evado Rd. and Hook Blvd
VICTIM: 26 year old male, Victorville Resident
SUMMARY:
On Friday, January 15, 2016 at approximately 3:50 a.m. an unknown injury traffic collision was reported at the intersection of El Evado Rd. and Hook Blvd. in the city of Victorville. The reporting party stated a vehicle had collided with a traffic signal pole. While deputies were responding, the reporting party said the vehicle was smoking and they did not see anyone in the vehicle. A short time later it was reported the vehicle was catching on fire and there was someone in the vehicle not moving.
When Deputy Asiah Medawar arrived on scene, an unidentified citizen was near the opened driver's door, and flames had entered into the passenger compartment. Due to the impact, the driver had slid partially under the dash area and was unconcious. Deputy Medawar and the citizen were able to pull the driver out of the vehicle and drag him away from the vehicle to a safe distance. Within a minute or two after removing the driver, the car became fully engulfed.
Due to Medawar's quick response and the assistance of a concerned citizen who was willing to risk his safety, the driver's life was saved. He would have surely died in the fire. The driver sustained severe burns to his right hand and it is unknown what other injuries he suffered. He was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
The cause of the collision is under investigation. Anyone with information about the collision should contact the Victorville Station at (760)241-2911.
