*Update* #LASD Detectives Investigate Deputy-Involved Shooting in Lancaster

**LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE CORRECTION**

1100 block of West Avenue H14, Lancaster

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives responded to the 1100 block of West Avenue H14, Lancaster, to investigate the circumstances surrounding a Deputy-Involved Shooting that occurred on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at approximately 5:45 p.m.

When homicide detectives arrived, they learned that Operation Safe Street deputies were working undercover in surveillance mode, in support of a robbery investigation. The deputies were in an unmarked car, when the suspect approached them at the front driver-side window. The suspect was wearing a makeshift mask that concealed the lower half of his face and pointed a gun at the deputies. Fearing for their lives, the deputies fired their weapons at the suspect from within the car, striking the suspect several times. The suspect then ran in a northwest direction and was later located in a yard on the 45000 block of Kingtree Avenue, Lancaster. We believe the suspect intended to rob our deputies.

The suspect sustained several gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

The suspect is a male adult in his 20’s. Due to the active investigation, no further suspect information will be given at this time.

A weapon was recovered at the scene. The weapon was discovered to be a Co2 BB Gun similar to the one depicted in the attached photo.  It is incidents like these that once again raise the issues of altering replica weapons to look like lethal firearms, which in this case, resulted in an Officer-Involved Shooting.

No deputies were injured.

The investigation is still ongoing.

There is no further information at this time.
