“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending Jan. 10th, 2016

ASSAULT WITH A FIREARM
On Saturday, Jan. 9th, around 8:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to James Logan High School on reports of a shooting. A victim had been shot in the leg by a male suspect who was with two other males. The shooting suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 18-20 years old, 5’8” and 160 lbs., clean-shaven with a slight Spanish accent, holding a silver semi-automatic handgun.

The second suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 20-25 years old, 5’10” and 170 lbs., clean-shaven. The third suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 18-20 years old, 5’6” and 150 lbs., short black hair and clean-shaven.

Detectives are continuing to investigate this case.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Home Invasion Robbery:
On Wednesday, Jan. 6th, around 9 p.m., officers were dispatched to Arizona St. on the report of a home invasion robbery. Three armed suspects had entered the home via an unlocked front door. The suspects demanded jewelry and asked for the location of the safe. After being told the residents did not have a safe, they took jewelry and cash and fled on foot. None of the victims were harmed. All suspects were described as black male adults wearing dark clothing and masks. Two had black handguns, and one had a silver handgun.

Stun Gun:
On Thursday, Jan. 7th, around 10:15 p.m., Ofc. Olson conducted a vehicle stop on a vehicle with expired registration that ran a stop sign. A probation search of the vehicle yielded an illegal stun gun. Regina Gonzalez, a 26-year-old San Leandro resident, was arrested.

Grand Theft:
On Friday, Jan. 8th, around 7:30 p.m., Ofc. Ziya took a grand theft report at the police department. The victim had found a Craigslist ad for an apartment, and followed instructions for a “credit check” that involved emailing her credit card and debit card information to an unknown person. The ad was a scam, and both cards were subsequently used for fraudulent charges.

Robbery:
On Sunday, Jan. 10th, Ofc. Stables was dispatched to a late reported strong-armed robbery. The victim said he was in the area of Fellows St. and Regents Blvd. around 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 9th when an unknown suspect approached him and hit him with a bar or stick. The suspect stole his necklace, watch and cash and fled on foot. The victim could only describe the suspect as an unknown race male, 5’7” and 180-190 lbs., wearing a blue sweater or jacket and a black beanie cap.

BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Jan. 4th through Sunday, Jan. 10th, there were two reported residential burglaries:
• 4500 block of Alice Way: Occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 6th, between 2:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The rear sliding glass door was unlocked. The residence was ransacked, and the loss included jewelry and electronics.
• 1500 block of Decoto Rd.: Occurred on Saturday, Jan. 9th, between 2:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. The front door was kicked open, and the loss included a backpack with miscellaneous souvenirs inside it.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Jan. 4th through Sunday, Jan. 10th, there was one reported commercial burglary:
• 30700 block of Union City Blvd.: Occurred between Monday, Jan. 4th at 7 p.m., and Tuesday, Jan. 5th at 12:15 p.m. The glass door was smashed, and the loss included a safe with property worth about $10,000. A subject later attempted to sell some of the stolen property on Craigslist. She was detained and consented to a search of her residence, but no other stolen property was found.

AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, Jan. 4th through Sunday, Jan. 10th, there were 16 reported auto burglaries. A majority of them were reported on Thursday morning in residential areas along Alvarado Blvd.

From Monday, Jan. 4th through Sunday, Jan. 10th, there were five reported vehicle thefts. As of the time of this report, four of the vehicles have been recovered.

PERSONAL EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS WORKSHOP, SATURDAY, JAN. 16
Congressman Eric Swalwell, the Alameda County Fire Department, Alameda County Sheriff's Office and Union City PD invite you to a Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP) Workshop on Saturday, Jan. 16, from 10 a.m. – noon. Choose a location convenient for you – Dublin, San Lorenzo or Union City – and learn how to prepare for both natural and man-made disasters including El Niño, earthquakes and active shooters. Emergency personnel will train you to prepare your home, neighborhood, and workplace.
