Wisconsin Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week

The Green Bay Police Department will join in the statewide Wisconsin Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week announced by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to be held January 11-15, 2016. This recognition event was developed through a collaborative partnership of agencies and organizations representing state, county, and local levels in Wisconsin.

Since approximately 1965, the Green Bay Police Department has administered an Adult School Crossing Guard program. The Green Bay Police Department is proud of its 42 regular and 15 relief Adult School Crossing Guards and would like to pay tribute to all of them during this week. All of the Adult School Crossing Guards are dedicated to our community and to your children by providing safe passage to and from school. Often, these Adult School Crossing Guards perform their duties in less-than-ideal weather conditions, but they continue to faithfully attend to their assignments on a daily basis.

This year, as has been done in the past, we would like to recognize two of our Adult School Crossing Guards who have dedicated many years of service to the Green Bay community. They are Jo McKeefry and Joanne Hille. Jo McKeefry was hired on 09/06/77 and is in her 38th year of being a City of Green Bay Adult Crossing Guard. Ms. McKeefry, whose current corner assignment is August St. and Lime Kiln Rd., serves Eisenhower Elementary School children. Joanne Hille was hired on 02/07/83 and is in her 32nd year of being a City of Green Bay Adult Crossing Guard. Ms. Hille, whose current corner assignment is N. Ashland Ave. and Mather St., serves Jefferson Elementary School children. Crossing guards Jo McKeefry and Joanne Hille are great examples of dedication and commitment to keeping the children of Green Bay safe.

The Green Bay Police Department would like to thank Jo McKeefry and Joanne Hille, as well as all of our Adult School Crossing Guards, for the special work that they do protecting the children of Green Bay. We encourage the citizens of Green Bay to join us in making the week of January 11-15, 2016 a very special one for all Adult School Crossing Guards throughout Wisconsin.
