Franklin County-Yesterday, at approximately 3:40 PM, the Indiana State Police investigated a head-on two vehicle crash on State Road 46 near Pocket Road, just west of Batesville that sent three people to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville with serious injuries.
According to the initial investigation by Troopers Bryce Harris and Tia Deaton, a red 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt being driven by Chelsey Moore, age 25, Batesville, was traveling westbound on State Road 46 near Pocket Road. The investigation determined that Moore’s vehicle traveled left of center as Moore attempted to avoid a vehicle that was turning in front of her. Moore’s vehicle then struck a gold 2006 Mercedes SUV being driven by Jerry Welborn, age 76, West College Corner, Indiana that was traveling eastbound on State Road 46.
The near head-on collision caused both vehicles to leave the roadway with Welborn’s vehicle overturning and coming to rest on its top. Welborn along with his wife Jane Welborn, age 76, were both transported by EMS to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Moore was also transported to Margaret Mary Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision. All injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Traffic on State Road 46 was affected for approximately one and half hours. The investigation is ongoing.
