DATE/TIME: 01/07/ 2016 11:00 am
INCIDENT: Grand Theft Investigation
LOCATION: 13000 Block of Innovation Way, Victorville CA
SUSPECT: Jesus Ibarra, 35 years of age, Resident of Hesperia
VICTIM: Mars Candy Company
SUMMARY:
The Victorville Police Department was contacted by the Excel Corporation, which is the West Coast distributor for the Mars Candy Company. Excel contracted with a trucking company to deliver candy that had not passed inspection, to a location in San Bernardino for destruction. This candy could not be sold and had to be destroyed. It was discovered the truck arrived missing approximately 7,500 pounds of candy.
Investigators found online advertisements on the popular Facebook site of High Desert Deals and Craigslist, of a subject selling bulk candy from their home. A search warrant was issued for Ibarra's home in the 13000 Block of Modesto Court in Hesperia. At this location, investigators discovered the entire garage had been converted into a candy store with approximately 30 racks of candy in boxes, all of which were labeled with prices. Loss prevention officers from the Excel Corporation were able to positively identify the candy in Ibarra's home from the serial numbers on the side of the boxes. These serial numbers matched those that had been sent for destruction through Ibarra Transport.
Ibarra was booked at High Desert Detention Center with bail set at $50,000. He was released Thursday night after posting bail.
