UPDATE Scammers Posing as Utility Employees - Possible Photo of Vehicle
***UPDATE*** We have obtained surveillance photos from the area the white pickup truck was last seen. The photos show a single cab (not crew cab or king cab) white pickup truck with no cap and possibly a toolbox or other container in the payload area of the pickup truck. Please see the attached photos.
On 1/5/2016 our agency investigated another complaint involving males seeking to enter a home stating that they needed to do utility work. Once inside the home one of the men will distract the homeowner while their partner looks for items to steal.
Today the suspects were described as two Hispanic males in their 30's or 40's. They were further described as average height, approximately 5'7" and one or both had moustaches. They were last seen driving a white Dodge pickup truck possibly with a black or gray stripe with temporary tags out of the State of Illinois on University Avenue on the city's east side.
The Green Bay Police would like to remind homeowners not to allow anyone into their home if they are unsure of who they are or why they are there. If you have not requested a contractor come to your home and someone shows up, you should be wary. If someone shows up claiming to be from a utility company (like the Green Bay Water Department or a cable company) you should call that company yourself to verify they have an employee scheduled to provide service at your address. If they claim to be a city employee, they should present a photo ID. When in doubt call their company or the municipality they claim they are from or contact the police. Under no circumstances should you allow them into your home until you believe they are there on legitimate business.
In many cases these scams appear to be targeting elderly home owners, so please share this information with friends and relatives who may not have seen this on the news, Facebook, or Twitter.
