Update on Shawano Ave fire from Jan 3rd, 2016 
On January 3, 2016, members of the GB Metro FD and Green Bay PD were called to an active fire at 1686 Shawano Ave. This fire displaced many residents with some unable to get out without the assistance of emergency personnel. Based on the investigation, it has been determined to be an accidental fire based on the careless use of an appliance by unsupervised children. No malicious act played any role into this incident. The public is urged to never warm any clothing or towel item in a microwave to stay warm.
It is strongly urged that occupants of rental units seek renters insurance and also regularly check their smoke detectors to ensure they are operational. Please do not call the shift commander with questions about this release.
