Community: The Union City Police Department reminds everyone to drive safely in the rainy weather.

The Union City Police Department would like to remind you to drive safely, as it looks like we will have rainy weather with us for a while.

A few reminders:
• Leave earlier than usual.
• Slow down.
• Leave more space between you and the vehicle in front of you.
• Remember to turn on your headlights while using your windshield wipers (whether it is day or night).

During inclement weather conditions the law requires such safety precautions in order to prevent traffic collisions, as well as to alert others of your location. This section of the law is meant to keep the public safe.

California Vehicle Code Section 24400(C) reads as follows:

(c) As used in subdivision (b), "inclement weather" is a weather condition that is either of the following:
(1) A condition that prevents a driver of a motor vehicle from clearly discerning a person or another motor vehicle on the highway from a distance of 1,000 feet.
(2) A condition requiring the windshield wipers to be in continuous use due to rain, mist, snow, fog, or other precipitation or atmospheric moisture.

Together we can reduce the number of collisions occurring in our city.

Be Safe.
