Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a Deputy-Involved shooting that occurred in the 15800 block of South Tarrant Avenue, Unincorporated Los Angeles, on Monday, January 4, 2016, at approximately 9:50 p.m.

Detectives have learned that at 8:30 p.m., Compton Station deputies were contacted by a resident who stated a man had pointed a gun at him earlier in the day.  The victim was able to identify the suspect and the vehicle he was driving at the time of the incident.

Within minutes after contacting the victim, deputies located the suspect, a male black adult, sitting in a white Infiniti parked in the 15800 block of South Tarrant Avenue. The suspect was seated in the driver’s seat.

The suspect got out of the car holding a pistol. He ran behind the Infiniti and pointed the pistol at the deputies, at which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect ran from the scene, at which time Compton Station deputies established a perimeter to search for the suspect. The suspect was located in the front yard of a residence in the 15800 block of South Haskins Avenue, Compton, where he was arrested without incident.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital and was treated for a single gunshot wound to the lower torso.

It was determined that the vehicle the suspect was driving had been reported stolen to the Los Angeles Police Department Foothill Division in 2015.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.

No deputies were injured during the incident.
