Colby Fire Impact Area YELLOW LEVEL Flooding Protocol in Effect

On 1/3/2016 at 1200 hours the city of Glendora declared the following YELLOW LEVEL emergency protocol in effect for the Colby Fire Impact Area.  The alert level was raised to yellow from green due to the possibility of several storms this week.  This afternoon's forecast by the Weather Service for Tuesday, January 5th, indicates the Colby area could experience a total of 1” to 2” of rain. There may be times of intense rain producing up to a ½” per hour rate. The second storm is anticipated Wednesday continuing into Friday that is forecast to produce about 1” of total rain. This storm has a better chance to produce some thunderstorms. Therefore, we have issued and expect to maintain a yellow alert status.

The city, in cooperation with its partner agencies, will continue to monitor the weather conditions.  However, it is important for residents living in the Colby Fire Impact Area, especially those farther up in the foothills, to be aware and diligent as these storms occur.  Weather forecasts can change rapidly and become significant storms quickly, especially thunderstorms, which may result in the City changing the alert status without prior notice.

Residents are reminded to never cross flowing water and/or mud.  If a debris flow occurs on your property or street, shelter in place by going to the highest point in the house or the middle of a single story residence.  The City will staff additional field crews and police personnel should the need arise.

The YELLOW LEVEL emergency protocol includes:

*NO EVACUATION orders in effect

*Rain–related parking restrictions in effect

*Residents directed to remove vehicles, trash bins, other obstructions from streets and/or travel lanes as they will be subject to tow or removal by authorities

*NO RESTRICTED ENTRY to impact area/potentially impacted areas.

The Colby Fire Impact Area includes all properties north of Sierra Madre between the western city boundaries of Azusa/Glendora (Yucca Ridge) to the eastern boundary of properties on the west side of the Little Dalton Wash (near Loraine Ave.).  These areas have the highest risk of being impacted by flooding/debris flows from rainfall due to the loss of vegetation from the foothills.

Residents are strongly encouraged to stay connected to the Glendora Police Department’s electronic notification systems, and to persistently monitor weather conditions.  Always remember to dial 9-1-1 in the event of a life threatening emergency.

Sandbags are available for residents at the Glendora City Yard, 440 S. Loraine Ave., in Glendora.  Information regarding their use can be obtained from the city website listed below.
