Sheriff Joseph M Underwood reports his deputies responded to a two car crash on M 62 N. of Harris Street in Jefferson Township on January 4, 2016 at around 8:10 AM.

Deputies arrived and found that Joseph Letizia, 55 years of Granger Indiana had been traveling northbound when he failed to maintain control of his vehicle and crossed the centerline. Letizia struck a southbound vehicle driven by Fran Striz, 60 yrs of Cassopolis Michigan.

Striz was taken to Elkhart Generl Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies were assisted on scene by the Edwardsburg Fire Dept and Life Care Ambulance Service.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and both drivers were using seatbelts. Both vehicles were equipped with airbags, which did deploy.
