The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

December 28, 2015

1049 Hours: Officer Mapes conducted a probation search at a residence in the 6200 block of Bennington Pl.. Currently two of the residents are on probation. Officer Mapes arrested a 32 year old female of Newark and a 35 year old male of Newark for 11377 H&S -possession of methamphetamine and 11364.1 H&S - possession of pipes used to smoke methamphetamine. They were issued citations and released.

1303 Hours: Officer Musantry noticed a 28 year old male of Newark walking in and out of traffic at the intersection of Central Ave and Cedar Blvd. He was acting bizarre and yelling at cars as they drove by. He was found to be under the influence of a central nervous stimulant and arrested for 11550 H&S. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

1347 Hours: Sgt. Kimbrough and Officer Mapes attempted to contact a group of males in the area of Thornton Avenue and Highway 880. One of the males fled from them, but Sgt. Kimbrough was able to to catch the suspect on the grass near the Highway 880 off ramp at Thornton Ave. The suspect surrendered and advised he only ran because he had warrants. The 49 year old transient had two no bail warrants for his arrest. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

0035 Hours: Officer Rodgers investigated an auto vs. pedestrian collision on Cherry Street/Market Street. A local transient male in dark clothing ran across all lanes of traffic on Cherry Street. While doing so he ran into a vehicle traveling 35 mph in the #1 north bound lane of Cherry Street. The driver of the vehicle was cooperative and neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor for the driver. The male was transported to a local hospital with a complaint of pain.

December 29, 2015

1118 Hours: Sgt. Hoppe investigated a minor injury collision that occurred on Cedar Blvd. and Central Ave.

1237 Hours: Detective Lopez conducted a traffic stop on Willow St. and contacted a 28 year old male of San Jose and arrested him for his DUI warrant. He was booked at the Fremont Jail.

1454 Hours: Detective Lopez conducted a traffic stop on Cedar Blvd. and contacted a 20 year old male of Hayward and issued him a citation for 12500(a) CVC – driving without a license.

December 30, 2015

1820 Hours: Officer Taylor responded to 5095 Nottingham Court for a report of a missing 101-year-old man. According to his 90-year-old wife, the male drove to his DMV appointment in Hayward this afternoon at 1:30 pm and hadn’t been heard from since. All on-duty personnel assisted with this case. Detective Lopez ultimately located the male in Redwood City and reunited him with his wife. This incident tied up a majority of our department for nearly 3 hours.

1936 Hours: Officer Johnson responded to a hit-and-run collision on Jarvis Avenue that resulted in a fire hydrant being sheared from its foundation.

2007 Hours: Officer Norvell investigated a collision on the ring road of Newpark Mall. A motorcyclist struck a 12-year-old child. The child was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

December 31, 2015

0908 Hours: Officer Ackerman arrested a 18 year old male of Newark who had a warrant. He was released with a new court date.

1144 Hours: Officer Prakash handled a citizen’s arrest at JC Penny’s, located at 500 Newpark Mall. A 18 year old female of Fremont was caught stealing approximately $54.00 worth of merchandise, and was later released from the scene on a citation.

1431 Hours: Detective Warren contacted a 46 year old male of Newark and another known probationer were riding bicycles westbound on Brittany Avenue east of Castillon Drive. Prior to a probation search, the two were asked if they had anything illegal on their person and the 46 year old male handed over a glass smoking pipe used to smoke methamphetamine. He was issued a citation for 11364.1(a) H&S – possession of drug paraphernalia.

0403 Hours: Officer Johnson was checking the neighborhoods and located a 29 year old male of Newark searching through a vehicle in front of a residence in the 36100 block of Dalewood Dr. After contacting the owner of the vehicle, the male was arrested for attempted theft from a vehicle and a probation violation. He was transported to Fremont Jail. On January 1, 2016 at 0834 hours Officer Prakash coordinated a follow-up probation search at the male’s residence located in the 36000 block of Ruschin Avenue. During the search, the following contraband was located: Ammunition, methamphetamine, glass pipes, baggies, scales, and a handful of broken porcelain chips. The male, who was still in-custody at Fremont Jail, was additionally charged with 30305(a)(1) PC (Felon in possession of ammunition), 11378 H&S (Possession for sales), 11364.1(a) H&S (Meth Pipe) and 466 PC (Burglary Tools). A special thanks to Detective Warren for his assistance with the planning, and execution of the operation.

0015 Hours: Officers responded to a disturbance at 5748 Mowry School Rd. (Chandni. Restaurant). Officers located several intoxicated people including a drunk female. Officers were able to quell the disturbance and were promised the disturbance was resolved. Unfortunately approximately 2 hours later officers again were dispatched to deal with the same intoxicate female. The 34 year old female of Fremont was ultimately arrested for being drunk in public and
was transported to Fremont Jail.

January 1, 2016

1155 Hours: Officer Ackerman contacted and arrested a 55 year old male of Newark for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.:

2136 Hours: Officer Ackerman accepted a shoplifter in custody from Macy’s Loss Prevention staff. A 23 year old male of Fremont was cite released from the store.

0444 Hours: Upon checking a vehicle on Derby Place, Officer Mapes contacted two males from Newark who are currently on probation. Both were determined to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. A 51 year old male and a 57 year old male were cite released for 11377 H&S.

January 2, 2016

0946 Hours: Officer Heckman stopped a 29 year old male of Newark who is currently on probation. During the search, Officer Heckman discovered a glass smoking pipe and nearly 4 grams of methamphetamine. The male was arrested and later booked at Santa Rita Jail.

1640 Hours: Officer Mapes and Officer Musantry contacted a 61 year old male and a 52 year old male both of Newark, near the railroad tracks at St. Isabel. Both suspects are on searchable probation and a probation search was conducted. The 61 year old male was found to be in possession of a glass pipe used to smoke narcotics. The 52 year old male was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a glass pipe used to smoke narcotics. Both were released on a citation.

2129 Hours: Officer Allum arrested a 41 year old male of Castro Valley for felony warrants. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

2258 Hours: Sergeant Kovach arrested 31 year old male of Milpitas for multiple warrants. He also provided two counterfeit driver’s licenses to officers and had a suspended driver’s license which required an ignition interlock device on his vehicle which was not present. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.
