Advisory

Keep the Party off the Road

Drunk driving is a killer on the roads all year round, but data shows that the tradition of celebrating the holidays with alcohol leads to an increase of traffic crashes and resulting deaths and injuries. This holiday weekend The Brown County OWI Task Force and other alcohol enforcement patrols will be out in force cracking down on drunk drivers.
Last year from Dec. 1, 2014 to January 1, 2015 The Green Bay Police Department arrested 78 drivers for operating a motor vehicle while impaired. On average, between 8 and 10 OWI arrests will be made in the City of Green Bay on New Year’s eve alone. Drinking and driving endangers yourself, your passengers, and those on the road around you. Whether you’ve had one or one too many, always hand the keys to a sober driver.
Here are some tips to help you make this a safe holiday season,
• Choose a sober designated driver before you start drinking.
• If you're feeling buzzed, you likely are over the 0.08 limit and should not drive.
• Rather than risk an arrest, or even worse a crash, take mass transit, a taxicab or ask a sober friend to drive you home.
• Save a life - don't let your friends drive drunk.
• Some taverns and restaurants have programs to provide patrons with a safe ride home.
• Visit http://www.zeroinwisconsin.gov/drivesober/ and download the free Wisconsin DOT App to assist in finding a safe ride, estimating your sobriety, or to designate the sober driver.
• Report impaired drivers to law enforcement or call 911.
