The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

December 21, 2015

0851 Hours: Officer Musantry arrested a 48 year old male of Newark for 273.5 PC - Domestic Violence after he assaulted his wife. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

1749 Hours: Officer Heckman investigated a solo vehicle collision with a complaint of pain that occurred on Newark Boulevard in front of the City Hall building. The driver, a 22 year old male was arrested for 12500 VC- no driver’s license and 11364.1 H&S – possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

2046 Hours: Officer Jackman responded to JC Penney for a shoplifter in-custody. A 20 year old female of Fremont was arrested for 484 PC- petty theft. She was released with a citation.

December 22, 2015

1111 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated a theft of a package taken from the door step of a residence in the 36300 block of Cedar Blvd. The theft occurred on 12/21/15 between 0730 and 0745 hours.

1225 Hours: Officers responded to a theft of beer that just occurred at the Tortilla Factory, 7015 Thornton Ave. The subjects were located and placed under citizen’s arrest. Officer Slater arrested a 24 year old male of Newark and a 29 year old male of Fremont. They were both issued a citation and released.

1357 Hours: Officer Johnson investigated an auto burglary at NewPark Mall which occurred between 0930 and 1100 hours.

1625 Hours: Officers responded to check on the welfare of a subject seated in his vehicle at Schilling School. Officer Jackman arrested a 57 year old male for DUI - 23152( a) CVC. He was issued a citation and released.

1845 Hours: Officers responded to the CVS on Newark Boulevard after the manager called to report a male inside was demanding entry into the back storage room after identifying himself as an undercover narcotics officer. Officer Geser located the 36 year old male of Newark as he drove away from the store. The elements of impersonating a peace officer could not be met and there was no crime inside of the store, but Officer Geser did locate drug paraphernalia in the car and issued a citation to the male for 11364.1 H&S and he was released from the scene.

1920 Hours: Officer Rodgers investigated two window smash auto burglaries at Brain O Magic located at 3900 NewPark Mall. Two lap tops were stolen between 1800-1900 Hours.

1958 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a residential burglary in the 6500 block of Cedar Boulevard. Unknown suspect(s) gained entry via front door kick. The burglary occurred between 1600-1958 hours.

2043 Hours: A 40 year old male of Newark walked into the NPD lobby and wanted to report a residential burglary. The burglary was unfounded, but the male was arrested for being under the influence of drugs. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

0530 Hours: Officers responded to an auto vs. bicyclist collision at the intersection of Thornton Avenue/Magnolia Street. The bicyclist had declined medical attention.

December 23, 2015

1209 Hours: Detective Warren contacted and arrested a 41 year old male of Newark for possessing burglary tools (PC 466). He was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1845 Hours: Officer Homayoun arrested a 27 year old male of Oakland for shoplifting from Macy’s. He was issued a citation and released.

2319 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated a strong armed robbery on St. Isabel/Edith Street. The suspect battered the victim in this case and stole his bicycle and cell phone.

0003 Hours: Officer Norvell investigated a non injury collision on Cherry Street/Mowry Avenue. Two semi-trucks from the same trucking company clipped each other as they were making a left turn causing a diesel full line to rupture. Diesel fuel was dispersed for quite a distance. A Public Works call-out took place, which then prompted a call-out to a city contract company to handle the clean-up. A representative from the trucking company arrived at the scene to take responsibility for the incident. Parts of this intersection were closed until approximately 1500 hours the next afternoon. A separate Nixle was sent regarding the road closures.

0453 Hours: Officer Homayoun investigated a solo vehicle vs. tree collision on Central Avenue/Willow Street.

December 24, 2015

1542 Hours: Officer Prakash was conducting an area check at HWY 880/Union Pacific Railroad Tracks for a wanted person, and observed a subject on a bike ride away from him at a high rate of speed. Detective Warren located the subject near Cedar Boulevard and St. Isabel and initiated a foot pursuit. The suspect was located near Birch Street and Baine Avenue. A 52 year old transient male was arrested for 148 PC resisting or failing to obey a police officer’s lawful commands. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

0224 Hours: Officer Johnson investigated a vehicle theft from a residence in the 36600 block of Cherry Street. The theft occurred between 2100 last night and 0224 hours. Stolen was a Silver 2001 Ford Taurus, CA Plate # 4MZL848.

0940 Hours: Officer Katz conducted a probation search at a residence in the 36300 block of La Salle Drive. During the search a small amount of methamphetamine was located. A 57 year old male of Newark was arrested for 11377 H&S- possession of methamphetamine. He was later released on a citation.

1052 Hours: Officer Mapes contacted a 34 year old male of Newark in front of a residence in the 37300 block of Glenmore Dr. in Fremont. A probation search was conducted and a small amount of methamphetamine was located inside the storage unit. He was arrested for 11377 H&S and later released on a citation.

1648 Hours: Officer Mapes contacted a 24 year old male of Newark on Cherry Street near Graham Avenue. The male was searched per his conditions of probation. The male had a methamphetamine smoking pipe in his possession. Officer Mapes arrested the male for 11364.1PC. He was released on a citation.

2020 Hours: Officers responded to a residence in the 37900 block of Lobelia Dr on a male causing a disturbance with his family. It was determined that the 28 year old male of Newark was under the influence of methamphetamine. Officer Simon placed him under arrest and transported him to Fremont PD Jail where he was booked.

2248 Hours: Officer Arroyo arrested a 18 year old male of San Jose who was drunk in public and causing a disturbance on Thornton Ave. He was transported to Fremont PD Jail.

December 27, 2015

1044 Hours: Officer Musantry arrested a 34 year old female for vandalism after she was seen scratching her ex-boyfriend’s car with a key. She was upset with a recent break up and was angry. She admitted to keying the car and letting the air out of the tires. She was arrested and released on a citation

2123 Hours: Officer Warren issued a citation to a 20 year old male of Fremont for 23222(b) VC – possession of marijuana in a vehicle and 12500 VC – driving without a license, after a traffic stop was initiated for speeding.
