Adedapo Homicide Investigation

HOMICIDE IN FRONT OF 187 CHURCH STREET

At approximately 2:13 AM on December 27th, 2013, Odafemi Adedapo, a male aged 28, was shot on the sidewalk in front of 187 Church Street. Officers from the Burlington Police Department on post in the vicinity of Church and Main Streets heard the gunshots and responded to the victim’s location in less than a minute. They could not locate a pulse on the victim, so they immediately began administering CPR. At 2:17, BFD Engine 1 arrived on scene, followed by Rescue 2 at 2:18. The victim was transported to UVM medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Examination revealed that Adedapo had been shot numerous times with a handgun.

Adedapo is known to the New York City Police Department as a member of the Cashford Crips, a criminal gang operating out of East New York, Brooklyn. On September 2nd, 2015, Adedapo was shot on Schenck Avenue in Brooklyn by a group of attackers who remain at large. He has twenty prior arrests in New York City, a dozen of them felonies. His arrests include two for robbery, three for criminal possession of a loaded firearm, two for assault, seven arrests for criminal contempt (the violation of a restraining order), and miscellaneous other charges. He was arrested in Pennsylvania in 2007 for kidnapping and aggravated assault. At the time of his death, Adedapo was found with a quantity of alleged crack cocaine secreted on his person.

Preliminarily investigation points towards a dispute that the victim was having at the Zen Lounge at 165 Church Street a short time before he was shot. Witnesses state he was arguing with at least one other male. He then left the lounge, where he was subsequently shot.

The investigation is in its early stages, and these facts are subject to clarification, revision and change. At the time of this release, the perpetrator remains at large.
