Incident: Fatal Traffic Collision
Location: Main Street at Fifth Avenue, Hesperia
Victim: Monica Duboise, 35 year old female, Hesperia
Summary: On December 26, 2015, at about 5:40 p.m., deputies from the Hesperia Sheriff Station of the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Department were responding to a burglary in progress. Deputy Jeromy Snyder was driving east on Main Street west of Fifth Avenue with his partner, Probation Officer Monique Garcia. Snyder was operating an unmarked emergency vehicle.
Monica Duboise, a 35 year old transient from the City of Hesperia, was walking south, across the east bound lanes of Main Street, at the intersection of Fifth Avenue. Duboise was dressed in dark clothing. East and west bound traffic on Main Street does not stop for cross traffic at this intersection. Duboise was hit by Snyder’s vehicle as he drove through the intersection. Snyder stopped his vehicle immediately. Snyder and Garcia began to render first aid to Duboise. Duboise died at the scene from the injuries sustained from the collision.
Assisting emergency personnel from the Sheriff's Department and San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after the collision occurred. Members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Department Region II Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. Main Street was shut down from First Avenue to Seventh Avenue for approximately seven hours. On December 27, 2015, at about 1:00 a.m., Main Street was reopened to traffic.
At this time speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision. This collision is still under investigation by MAIT personnel. Any witnesses to this collision are urged to contact Deputies Jason Grantham or Travis James at (760) 240-7400.
