Advisory

National Weather Service warns of an active weather episode for much of the weekend

An active weather episode is expected for Arkansas for much of the weekend.

A powerful storm system was organizing over the southwestern U.S. This system is expected to accelerate northeastward, reaching the Great Lakes region by late Monday. Strong southerly low level winds were affecting the mid-south, transporting abundant, abnormally high moisture for the season into the region. A cold front will slowly approach the state from the west, and will focus the development of showers and thunderstorms.

The overall precipitation coverage will spread from west to east overnight and early Sunday. Heavy rainfall is expected during the day Sunday and Sunday night. With dormant vegetation, and wet antecedent conditions, periods of flash flooding are expected. Also, river flooding is expected to develop along the Arkansas, Black, and White River systems by early next week.

There will be a threat for severe thunderstorms during the day on Sunday, with the greatest threat expected along and south of interstate 40. Large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes will be possible on Sunday.
