Advisory

AVOID Alvarado Blvd. at Fair Ranch Rd. through April 2016 due to road closure.

Road Closure on Alvarado Blvd Extended For Ongoing Repair Work

Union Sanitary District (USD) will continue major repair work on Alvarado Boulevard between Fredi Street and Fair Ranch Road. The closure will take effect immediately and is expected to continue through April 2016. As a result, both westbound lanes of Alvarado Blvd will be closed through April 2016, and one eastbound lane of Alvarado Blvd will be closed until mid-February.

USD will have a contractor working Monday through Friday between 7am and 5pm, carrying out a large excavation and repair work to underground sewage pipes. The size of the excavated hole will be about 60 feet long, 15 feet wide, and 20 feet deep. Initially, residents can expect to hear rumbling from the construction while contractors insert metal sheet piles into the excavated hole to stabilize it before crews begin with long term pipe repair. USD will be issuing notices to residents and others in the affected area.

USD is coordinating closely with the City of Union City, New Haven Unified School District, Union City Police Department, and the Alameda County Fire Department to reduce inconvenience to the public and ensure minimal impact on emergency services. A traffic control plan is in place, and a pedestrian path will be installed next to the ball field at Itliong-Veracruz (formerly Alvarado) Middle School.
