Peru – Yesterday at approximately 5:45 p.m., troopers from the Indiana State Police responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Bobtail Lane near Abraham Lane, in which a Peru man was severely injured.
The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Jeremy Perez revealed that Claud McCoy, 67, Peru, IN was driving a 1997 GMC van northbound on Bobtail Pike, south of Abraham Lane. Frederick Smith, 30, Peru, IN was walking northbound with his back to traffic on Bobtail Lane. Smith was walking on the edge of the pavement south of Abraham Lane. He was struck by the front passenger side of the GMC and thrown off the eastside of the road. It was dark at the time of the crash.
Smith was airlifted from the crash scene to a Ft. Wayne hospital with life threatening injuries. McCoy was not injured.
The crash is still under investigation.
