The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

December 14, 2015

0919 Hours: Officer Katz contacted a 42 year old male of Newark near a homeless encampment by Hwy 880 and Saint Isabel Ave. During the contact the male admitted he had methamphetamine in his pants pocket. He was placed under arrest and later released on a citation.

1159 Hours: Officer Nobbe contacted a 30 year old male of Fremont during a traffic stop. It was discovered that the male had a no cite no bail misdemeanor warrant for his arrest out of San Rafael CA. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

1420 Hours: Officer Mapes arrested a 40 year old male for possession of drug paraphernalia and released him on a citation.

1705 Hours: Officer Musantry arrested a 28 year old male of Newark at his residence on Lobelia Drive for several warrants. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

2244 Hours: Officer Slater investigated a hit-and-run collision on Central Avenue near Starflower Street. An unknown vehicle collided with a city tree knocking it into the roadway. Public Works was called out to remove the tree.

December 15, 2015

0601 Hours: Officer Allum investigated a non-injury traffic collision involving an unlicensed driver that occurred on Thornton Ave.

1048 Hours: During a pedestrian stop on Derby Place, Officer Mapes cited and released a 57 year old male of Newark for possession of methamphetamine.

1247 Hours: A traffic stop by Officer Johnson at NewPark Mall resulted in the arrest of a 39 year old female of Hayward for a misdemeanor warrant. She was cited and released at the scene.

1412 Hours: Officer Johnson handled a citizen’s arrest/shoplifting case at the NewPark Mall Hollister store. A 43 year old transient female was booked at Fremont PD Jail for 484(a)PC and 148.9(a)PC- lying to a police officer.

2309 Hours: Officer Kovach on-viewed a vehicle driving recklessly in the Newark Junior High School parking lot. As a result, she arrested a 23 year old male of Walnut, CA for reckless driving. He cited and released.

2351 Hours: Officer Geser investigated a Stolen vehicle from a residence in the 5000 block of Abbotford Court. Stolen was a Green 1998 Honda Civic, CA Plate 6GKE186.

0111 Hours: Officers responded to a family disturbance at A residence in the 6600 block of Graham Avenue involving a 34 year old female. There was no crime at that time and Daniels went to a friend’s house. At 0227 Hours the female returned to the residence and armed herself with a baseball bat and a knife while threatening to kill her father. Officers responded back to the residence, evacuated her father, and officers arrested the female for threatening to kill her father. (422 PC) She was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

December 16, 2015

0927 Hours: Officer Ackerman investigated a domestic violence incident that occurred at a residence on Buena Vista Dr. A 23 year old male of Fremont was arrested for 275.5(a)PC – front domestic violence and a misdemeanor warrant. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail

1201 Hours: Officer Fredstrom handled a citizen’s arrest/shoplifting case at the NewPark Mall Macy’s store. A 43 year old transient male was arrested for petty theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, and warrants. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

1920 Hours: During a pedestrian-stop on Thornton Avenue/Sycamore Street, Officer Horst contacted a 32 year old male of San Jose. The male had an outstanding warrant and he was in possession of hypodermic needles containing heroin. He was arrested and booked at Fremont Jail.

1920 Hours: Officers responded to a residential burglary at a residence in the 5400 block of McLaughlin Avenue. The homeowner reported the front door and garage door were ajar and their BMW 328i was stolen from the garage. The burglary occurred between 1200-1920 Hours. The stolen BMW was located by Union City PD a couple of hours later.

December 17, 2015

1019 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 46 year old transient male for possessing a controlled substance (H&S 11377). He was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1349 Hours: Officer Prakash and Officer Fredstrom were dispatched to the New Park Mall Macy’s for a shoplifter in custody. Officer Prakash arrested a 15 year old male (Hayward) for grand theft. The suspect was issued a notice to appear in court and was released to his parents..

1614 Hours: Officer Horst responded to a hit-and-run collision on Dairy Ave, near Olive St. Officer Horst investigated the incident and determined the subject reporting the crime had an outstanding arrest warrant. A 24 year old male of Newark was arrested and booked at Fremont Jail.

1645 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 28 year old male of Fremont for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1728 Hours: Officer Johnson handled a citizen’s arrest/credit card fraud case at the NewPark Mall Subway and Burger King restaurants. Between both restaurants, a 22 year old female of Oakland attempted to purchase $900 in gift cards using fraudulent credit cards. The managers of both restaurants caught on to the scam and detained the female until police arrived. The female was booked at Fremont PD Jail for 484f(a)PC- fraudulent signature use on a credit card, 484i(b)PC- fraudulent use of a credit card, and 459PC – burglary, entering a building to commit a felony.


December 18, 2015

1346 Hours: NPD Officers were dispatched to the vacant Cinedome, located at 6000 New Park Mall Rd, for a subject trespassing on the roof of the building. The Alameda County Fire Department assisted and provided a ladder to gain access to the roof. Officer Prakash located and arrested a 41 year old male of Fremont for trespassing (602 (m) PC). Gardner was transported to and booked into Fremont Jail.

1513 Hours: Officer Horst was dispatched to the 5300 block of Milani Ave, for a suspicious solicitor. Officer Horst contacted and arrested a 50 year old female of Oakland for two outstanding arrest warrants. She was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1939 Hours: Officer Smith investigated a theft from an open garage in the 5500 block of Civic Terrace Ave where a JBL speaker, a Diabetes testing kit, and an “Entourage” DVD box set were taken. Suspect was described as a male with a black sweatshirt and blue jeans on a dark colored mountain bicycle.

1954 Hours: Officer Arroyo investigated a theft of a catalytic converter from the Logitech parking lot located at 7700 Gateway Boulevard. The theft occurred between 1000-1800 hours.

2231 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a DUI collision where the intoxicated driver sideswiped the front of a residence and into the garage door at a residence in the 36000 block of Spruce Street. A 51 year old male of Fremont was located in the driver’s seat of the vehicle by the homeowner. He was placed under arrest and he was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

0519 Hours: Officer Arroyo responded to the I-880 northbound off-ramp onto Thornton Ave to assess an unresponsive driver parked on the off-ramp. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to get the driver to respond, entry was forced into the vehicle. The very intoxicated driver, a 25 year old male of San Jose, attempted to close his door and start his car back up. The California Highway Patrol responded and took custody of the male driver.

December 19, 2015

0848 Hrs: Officer Nobbe was dispatched to a residence in the 37000 block of Saint Mary St regarding a hit and run collision. The suspect vehicle left behind its front bumper which included the license plate. Officer Nobbe located the suspect vehicle disabled a short distance away. The owner of the vehicle stated he had just reported the vehicle stolen to Union City Police Department. During the investigation a witness to the collision was located who placed the registered owner in the driver seat at the time of the collision. The registered owner, a 28 year old male was placed under arrest for 20002(a) CVC- hit and run.

1200 Hours: Officer Musantry arrested a 59 year old male of Newark for two outstanding misdemeanor warrants. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

1412 Hour: Officer Musantry arrested a 21 year old male of San Jose for his outstanding misdemeanor warrant. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

1546 Hours: Officers were dispatched to a welfare check of a subject standing outside talking to himself, yelling and swinging his arms. Officers located a 31 year old male of Fairfield standing in the driveway of a residence in the 5800 block of Saint Paul Dr. displaying such behaviors. Officer Todd determined he was under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant. He was arrested for 11550(a) H&S And booked at Fremont Jail.

1609 Hours: Officer Heckman arrested a 30 year old male for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a citation.

2209 Hours: Officer Warren investigated an auto burglary that occurred in the Chuck E Cheese’s parking lot between 2000 and 2200 hours. Loss was a car battery, a child’s board game, and a binder of documents.

December 20, 2015

1451 Hours: Officer Katz contacted a 59 year old female of Newark at a homeless encampment off of 880 and the railroad tracks (near St. Isabel). The female was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia . She was issued a citation and released.

2238 Hours: Officer Homayoun investigated a collision on Cherry St at Thornton Ave where a vehicle collided with a light signal pole. It was also reported that a group of male juveniles stole the traffic signal light and fled with the object into the area of the Bridgeport Apartment complex. After the vehicle occupants’ welfare was checked, an area search was conducted for the theft suspects but they were not located.
