“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending Dec. 13th, 2015

ROBBERIES
On Monday, Dec. 7th, around 11:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to Early Rivers Pl. for the report of a robbery and attempted carjacking. Three male suspects approached a victim sitting in his vehicle. One of them brandished a knife and attempted to carjack the victim, but he couldn’t start the car. The suspects ended up running away with the victim’s keys and cell phone. They were located and detained a short distance away. A 16-year-old Hayward resident, 16-year-old Tracy resident, and 17-year-old Tracy resident were arrested.

On Monday, Dec. 7th, around 12 p.m., three students at James Logan High School robbed another student of his cell phone. The cell phone was later recovered by a school principal, and at least one of the suspects was identified.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Burglary Tools:
On Tuesday, Dec. 8th, around 3:15 p.m., police officers observed a male attempting to open vehicle doors in the parking lot of the Alvarado Plaza shopping center (corner of Alvarado and Dyer). They detained the suspect, who was also found with burglary tools on his person. Rodney Porlaris, a 48-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for possession of burglary tools and attempted burglary.

Concealed Knife:
On Tuesday, Dec. 8th, around 10:45 a.m., officers responded to a residence for a family disturbance. One of the subjects had a knife concealed beneath his sweatshirt. Theodore Bostic, a 35-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for possession of a concealed dirk/dagger.

On Wednesday, Dec. 9th, around 8 a.m., Ofc. Lanier was conducting a security check in the area of Whipple Rd. and I-880 near the railroad tracks. He detained a subject for trespassing on railroad property, and a pat search also yielded a concealed knife on his person. Dennis Puthoff, a 46-year-old Livermore resident, was arrested on both charges.

Grand Theft:
On Wednesday, Dec. 9th, between 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., someone stole a large steel frame from a business on Union City Blvd.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon:
On Saturday, Dec. 12th, around 12:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 7-11 store on Alvarado-Niles Rd. on the report of an assault. The victim said that an unknown suspect tried to stab him with a knife, and then slashed all four of the victim’s vehicle tires. A second victim said the suspect attempted to stab her as well. No one was injured, and the suspect fled on foot. He was described as a black male adult, 25-30 years old, and 5’8.”

BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Dec. 7th through Sunday, Dec. 13th, there were three reported residential burglaries:
• 34700 block of Williams Way: Occurred on Monday, Dec. 7th, between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. The rear glass sliding door was smashed. The master bedroom was ransacked, and the loss included jewelry, cash and weapons.
• 3100 block of San Joaquin Way: Occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 9th, between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. The victim realized a large amount of cash was missing from his wallet, and believes it was taken from his home the previous day.
• 20 block of Union Square: Occurred sometime between Nov. 7th and Dec. 5th. Unknown entry into a storage locker, and the loss included rolls of paper towels and toilet paper.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Dec. 7th through Sunday, Dec. 13th, there was one reported commercial burglary:
• 34700 block of Alvarado-Niles Rd.: Occurred between Wednesday, Dec. 9th at 9 p.m., and Thursday, Dec. 10th at 8:10 a.m. A glass window was smashed, and the cash register box was taken from the front counter.

AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, Dec. 7th through Sunday, Dec. 13th, there were nine reported auto burglaries, the majority of which involved purses, backpacks and electronics that were left in plain view on the front or rear seats.

One burglary resulted in the arrest of Ryan Moore, a 34-year-old Union City resident. Moore was identified through video surveillance when he used the victim’s credit cards in several businesses following the burglary. He was also in possession of other stolen property when he was arrested.

From Monday, Dec. 7th through Sunday, Dec. 13th, there were seven reported vehicle thefts. As of the time of this report, four of the vehicles have been recovered.

EMPLOYEE HIGHLIGHTS
On Saturday, Dec. 12th, UCPD held its second annual “Shop with a Cop” event at Walmart. Numerous UCPD officers, civilian employees and Explorers volunteered their time to take the families shopping, wrap gifts, and organize fun activities for the children. Walmart made a generous donation of $2,500 to support this event. We thank Cobalt Equipment and Cold Storage for their contributions as well.
