OSBI Investigates Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Westville Police Officer During Police Pursuit

Monday evening, an Adair County sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull over the driver of a White Dodge Durango in Stillwell for a taillight not working. The driver refused to pull over and a pursuit ensued through Stillwell. A Stillwell officer joined the pursuit as it travelled north into Westville. The suspect vehicle topped speeds of 110 mph. At several intersections, officers tried to stop the SUV and detour other vehicles. At least one officer fired his gun at the vehicle to stop it. No one was hit by gunfire. At the intersection of Buffington and Highway 59, a Westville police officer was standing outside his vehicle when the suspect vehicle struck him. Officer Joshua Sidebottom was badly injured and rushed to a hospital where he is in critical but stable condition. The suspect vehicle came to a stop a few miles north of the crash site. Officers arrested Brandon Dale Rowan (d.o.b. 10-8-1980), of Westville, on an outstanding warrant. Rowan has a lengthy criminal record including arrests for eluding a police officer, carrying a firearm after conviction, kidnapping, possession of a controlled substance, and domestic assault and battery. The Westville Police Department requested OSBI investigate. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is assisting with the crash investigation.
